UCLA CLASS OF 2021 APPLICANT THREAD

Does anyone here want to join Greek life if they get in or know anything about Greek life at UCLA?

@coffee1999 I’d wanna join a sorority if I was at UCLA / admitted tomorrow:))) all I’ve heard is it’s expensive

hey all, i’m ready 2 join the frenzy of college decisions coming soon. i’m almost entirely sure i’m going to be rejected but i honestly am not sure if i even want to attend (l o l, lack of music minor). but i was accepted to ucsd and ucd, so who knows

@abundantbananas Hey! Your chance of getting into UCLA is very high, bc you are admitted to both UCD and UCSD! Just hold your head up!

@coffee1999 @nduclaunc Greek Life is pretty big on campus. I rushed fall quarter freshman year and it was one of the best decisions I’ve made here. Let me know if you have any questions in Greek life.

Are LL and diversity letter only for engineering?

@10s4life why the high dropout rate for EE?

@nduclaunc I want to join a sorority too! and I know two girls that are in sororities at UCLA and they love it I just don’t know which one and stuff

@10s4life how did you decide which one you wanted to join?

@coffee1999 recruitment in general is similar everywhere, however sororities vary. Not every chapter is at every school, etc. so in general, although Ucla may have special discrepancies, rush has a schedule and you preview each house. Through meeting girls and talking at each house and “party” (get togethers at each house where you have casual conversation with the members) they have throughout the week , it is a mutual selection process. You narrow down the sororities you like, and at the same time, the sororities make cuts based on who would be a good fit for them as well. The events vary throughout the week and eventually you make your top selections and hope to get a “bid” from one of them. A bid just means a sorority you chose also chose you, that’s how you become a part of the chapter. Thus the term “mutual selection” is born. This is general sorority info, as all my sisters are involved in Greek life and I’ve heard how rush goes. Like I said, I have no insider knowledge on rush at ucla but it tends to be similar everywhere.

@1lurker Cause it’s hard.

@Gocal I never said not getting letter means you aren’t admitted. I said it was only sent to the top admits they want to retain.

@nduclaunc That’s pretty much how it works at UCLA. I’m in a frat though so my rush experience was much more chill. My friends can confirm sorority rush was brutally exhausting. But your pledge process isn’t as hard as guys. Joining a house at UCLA really makes the community so small here. Most top and upper middle houses are pretty sleelctive here but as long as you pref a house you were “given” you’ll be assured a bid based on pan hel. Ifc (traditional social frats) does not guarantee bids for guys

If I applied to CS is that L&S or engineering?

@422525 Engineering

Hey guys I know we’re 1 day away from admissions, but I’m still super nervous. I’m oos and only applied uci, ucla, and cal. I got campus honors for uci and alumni scholarship invite at ucla. Does this mean I have a decent shot at ucla? Also clarification question regarding uc GPA. Which electives do I count toward GPA and do I include school honors classes?

Am I screwed if I didn’t get an Alumni scholarship? I got into UCSD.

@ndoge99 If you got an alumni scholarship invitation then you do have a higher chance of getting in than most applicants, but it’s not 100%. I’d be very happy if I got one

@JuicyMango The two are not mutually exclusive. Thinking like that is not logical at all

@ndoge99 this is all on ucla’s site but im oos too so ill tell you to the best of my knowledge. Oos honors do not count as honors, they count as regular classes, no gpa boost. Ap classes count as honors/ap/whatever you get a 1.0 boost. Dont count gym classes, personal fitness, etc toward gpa. I dont believe things like cooking count either. Languages do bc theyre one of the a-g requirements. Business, marketing, etc do not count toward gpa but i believe there was a section of the app to mark if u took a class like that. Ap econ (mac and mic) count toward college prep course a-g requirement and thus counts in your gpa. If you took six years of math, as long as you entered 4-6 in the math requirement and any math u didnt put there (say u put 4 in math req and have 2 left), if you put the remaining in the colege prep course req, they also count toward your gpa and this counts for any a-g req (eng, history, science, etc).
In summary, If it didnt meet an a-g req, doesnt count toward gpa. No boost for ur state honors classes, +1.0 boost for ap classes.
