UCLA Class of 2022 - Applicant Thread

@10s4life I have been accepted in UCLA, class of 2022. I am a OOS student. What options do I have for scholarship/ grant/ RA positions?

I will be pursuing neuroscience or psychobiology major.

Thanks!

@Shankar19 Whatever they offered you now is what you’re recieveing. You can’t be an RA until sophomore year and the process is highly competitive.

Are you now or have you ever been a member of the Trojan family?

Has anyone received mail packet yet? I thought they were supposed to be sent out this week but I haven’t gotten anything.

@yerinable I got mine this morning! I’m in SoCal if that makes a difference.

@stevensonjj0 Hey congrats on getting in! The packet is nice isn’t it?

@yerinable We are in NorCal and my daughter has not received her packet yet.

@10s4life Thanks! And yes, it’s pretty amazing

@usma87 Where did you get the 5.3 acceptance rate?

@jchoibokchoi It’s been resolved already. He accidentally did the projected class size divided by the total applicant pool. The actual acceptance rate is 14%ish.

Also has anyone been selected for verification for financial aid?

@yerinable Only some people are selected for verification. It is used to battle Financials Aid Fraud. As long as you didn’t lie don’t sweat it and fill out the required audit forms. For more information you can contact Ucla financial aid at 310-206-0400 or Bruin Bill Accounts at 310-794-8686

We might’ve just lost a potential Bruin. My homegirl just got into Stanford!!! And for almost nothing! Sorry, just wanted to mourn the lost :frowning:

Yes but has anyone for been selected yet for UCLA? I’ve been selected for verification for UCB and UCD and just wanted to know if UCLA has selected people yet.

@yerinable I haven’t been selected.

Since all UC decisions are out now many of you have committed to UCLA. UCLA gets a lot of calls about housing so here is a pretty complete guide to navigating the housing app and meal plans.

  1. Guaranteed Housing You automatically trigger your 3 years of guaranteed housing (only UC to do this) by applying for on campus housing on time and continuing to apply for on campus housing for 3 academic years. Living off campus second year deletes the 3 year guarantee as it must be continuous.
  2. Financial Aid Living off campus lowers financial aid if your aid goes beyond tuition and fees for the quarter.
  3. Type of Dorms (in order of least to most expensive) Classic- the traditional dorm. Most social and traditionally all freshman. Communal bathrooms and no AC. Deluxe- communal bathrooms just like a classic, larger room, AC Plaza- same sized room as a deluxe, AC, private bathroom or shared with the adjacent room Suite- an apartment with no kitchen, no ac
  4. Types of meal plans (in order of most to least expensive) 19p- 19 meals per week. Premium means you are given all your swipes for the quarter and you can use them however you want. Best if you want flexibility and a lot of meals. 14p- same as 19p except 14 meals per week. Best if you want flexibility and leave campus or eat out a lot. 19r- 19 meals per week. You are given meals for the week and you may swipe only once per meal period. meals expire at the end of the week. Best if you want a lot of meals for a low price. 14r- same as 14p except 14 meals per week. Best if you don't eat a lot and want to save money.

FAQ:
1.Can I have a deluxe because it has the social aspects of a classic with a bigger room?
Unfortunately, all deluxe buildings (Sproul Cove, Sproul Landing, Holly, and Gardenia) are completely full as current students pick rooms first.

  1. No AC! How am I going to survive the LA heat? Its mild most of the year and tbh it was completely fine. You really only need AC during the first 3 weeks and last 3 weeks of the year. All lounges on each floor are air conditioned.
  2. I like my privacy and I am concerned about living with people can I have a single? Singles are either given to athletes or those with disabilities. You have a better chance of going to Stanford than getting a single as a freshman. Having a roommate is a great experience and you'll meet so many more people that way.
  3. How about a double then? Beginning last year, all freshman were and will continue to be placed in triple occupancy rooms. The more the merrier!
  4. Aren't there 21 meals in a week why is 19 the max? Monday-Friday we serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late night Saturday-Sunday we serve brunch, dinner, and late night
  5. How does the roommate matching work? You fill out very basic preferences for living habits. Housing matches based on that. I highly suggest finding a roommate through the UCLA Class of 2022 Facebook Group run by undergraduate admissions.
  6. Can I pick a specific building name? No you can only pick the type. Freshman are most commonly placed in the following: Dykstra Hall (classic) Sproul Hall (classic) Rieber Hall (classic) Hedrick Hall (classic) DeNeve (plaza) Hedrick Summit (plaza) Courtside (plaza) Hitch (suites)

10s4life’s recommendations for housing preferences*
In order to maximize not getting stuck in a room you don’t want here is what I would and did preference on the app based on what you will get. Because all students get triples all doubles should be last selections to maximize your first pick. Deluxe filled up within the first 5 hours of current student room signup so not a chance lol.

Yale, Stanford, UPenn, Berkeley, or UCLA with a great scholarship?

Pre-med

Our acceptance packet arrived today as well. We are also in SoCal (San Diego area).

@10s4life Re #1, UCSB essentially guarantees 4 years of housing with their 2+2 program. If you live in the dorms your first 2 years, you are guaranteed a spot in the apartments the last 2 years. Since they changed the way they do sign ups a year or 2 ago, some people are able to live in on campus dorms for 4 years now. But the apartments are so nice it’s better for most kids and cheaper. Since I think you have a sibling that is interested in going there, just wanted to point that out to you. Yes, the apartments are a short ways off campus, but since everyone rides a bike to class, it takes less time than it does for you to walk over to south campus.
