UCLA Class of 2022 - Applicant Thread

I’m an in-state applicant from the bay area applying for computer engineering, stats are
1540 SAT (740 english, 800 math)
800 Chem
780 Math 2
GPA 3.95 UW/ 4.33 W
ECs are
Varsity Track/Cross country captain, 4 years each sport
NHS Vice president
a few hackathon wins/self-taught programming

UCLA is my ‘realistic dream school’ and I really /really/ want to go there

For those who received e-mails from them, it’s to confirm that the school has received YOUR application. If your name is not in the database - they are still putting people on the database.

@Camchar88 My 17 year old daughter. Not sure if I’m supposed to use D18 as in ‘graduates in 2018’. New around these here parts. :slight_smile:

Hi everyone! Hope you feel relieved now that your apps are in. I’m a second year student and a HSSEAS Student Ambassador so feel free to ask me any questions about Ucla or student life. I am not an admissions officer so please don’t ask me to chance you. Ucla is so competitive now it’s anyones game.

@10s4life How difficult is it to dual major in Computer Science and Business Econ?

@senioroines Why the double major? You can go into business without the Econ degree. It will he nearly impossible to do both in 4 years just because CS is in a series and is a high unit major.

@10s4life thank so much for offering your help! I heard high GPA >4.2 W is the threshold for acceptances, is that true?

@Camchar88 Hi! While anything greater than a 4.2 is helpful there are people who get in with lower GPAs. In fact I have plenty of friends in the low 4s.

@10s4life whew, mine is 4.1 weighted so maybe I have a chance! I know recs are not required, but I have a really good one from my internship supervisor whom I worked for three consecutive summers. It made my mom cry. Can I forward it as a supplement material?

hey@10s4life what’s life like generally around ucla? the food? environment? people? I’m an international applicant so I’m not really familiar with LA at all would be great to get some insight!

@10s4life

@Camchar88 If you aren’t asked for something Ucla won’t look at it. They have over 100k freshman apps to read.

@screennamexxx It’s great! There’s so many people so you’re bound to meet friends that share commonalities with you! It’s super social and sports are a big deal here which is awesome! Ucla dining is amazing and ranked number 1 in the Nation by Niche 2 years in a row. It’s packed since a lot of people live in a relatively small area but it means you’re never too far away from a friend. Westwood is bordered by Brentwood and Beverly Hills, and bel air so it’s a very nice area.

@10s4life - When people talk about UCLA GPA, how do I calculate what mine would be? Is it only Sophomore and Junior grades? Also, when I calculated it using Rogerhub, I was confused whether or. ot to strip my AP and Honors points before entering them or to not. Thanks:)

Also, does being a white male from an upper income bracket from the suburbs of Atlanta hurt me or help me? lol

@10s4life that sounds amazing! thanks a lot!

@neuroman

UC calculates an out-of-state applicant’s GPA the same way it calculates the GPA of a California resident. The campus would use all courses the student took to meet “a-g” requirements from the summer before 10th grade to the summer after 11th grade. In calculating a nonresident’s GPA, UC will grant honors weight for AP or IB courses only, but not for school-designated honors courses.

UCs limit the number of honors points to 4 courses (8 semesters), with no more than 2 courses (four semesters) from 10th grade.

Legally UCs are blind to race, ethnicity and gender in its admissions.

thanks for the help!!

@svlab112

@neuroman Yep that’s correct. They do see income and that’s mainly to give a background on what kind of opportunity you may have had.
