UCLA Class of 2022 - Applicant Thread

@techinerd Alumni scholarship emails are not sent to everyone but to the top 20% of applicants. It’s associated with a high correlation not causation of eventually being admitted.

@10s4life hopefully nothing has changed…

@helpmegetinlol Trust me it hasn’t.

@boloking It means you are a top appplicant to Engineering. While not the likely letter released closer to decisions it is a great sign. Congrats!

Didn’t get the alumni scholarship email… does that mean I won’t get into UCLA? Since it goes out to the top 20% and they only accept ~15%?

@amigadelauni No because the general correlation is you have a 60% chance of getting admitted as an invitee. It’s also not holistic for invites

So they send the Alumni invitation based on scores and grades and review based on holistic considerations? Also, does it hurt admissions chances if you don’t apply for the scholarship? Thanks for your helpful posts in this forum.

you should expect your decision by march 18.

Is the Alumni invitation only sent to in-state applicants?

D got it OOS.

LA stands for Louisiana, not LA. :slight_smile:

@MomLA2018 There is another app. It has nothing to do with acceptance of you don’t apply. It’s very hard to actually get the scholarship itself. I didn’t apply but got the invite.

@biologyandbooks March 16th. The 18th was for 2016

@bogeyorpar All so both in and oos

So D can ignore it and not hurt chances at UCLA? Thanks so much! It is impossible to navigate the U Cal system from OOS.

ugh its so scary. i got the email which is obviously encouraging, but i know it’s not a guarantee whatsoever.

@MomLA2018 yep. For the most part it’s not worth the time to apply for it unless money is a factor and you’re confident you’ll get in and attend Ucla.

Thanks! I really appreciate your advice.

I got the alumni scholarship email as well. Are we sure it only goes to the top 20% of applicants? What’s the admit rate for those who receive the email?

Does anyone know if in the past, the two emails came out the same time? Alumni scholarship invitation/UC Regents invite.
