@lulunoelle7 UCLA and the other UCs do not see the persons race when reviewing the applications.
@lulunoelle7 your anecdote supports what someone guessed a few posts ago in regards to the Alumni email being sent out based on essays and EC’s.
I’m sure it was mentioned earlier in the thread, and I apologize for making you repeat yourselves, but when do we expect decisions to be released for in state applicants?
@Barcelona97531 No one knows. Last year, UCLA was the first to send out the Regents invite. But this year, no news…
@barcelona97531 - Mar 16, based on last year
@10s4life whoops should’ve clarified that one of his essays was about how it was to be African American and to grow up in a prodomiantly white community and another was about how he started the lgbt club on campus to create a safe place for people like him. don’t know if that mattered or not
@Barcelona97531 Most likely March 16th. All decisions are released at once. Financial aid awards are released 1-3 days after decisions. Mailed acceptance packages are sent a week later. Rejections are only available online and are not mailed home.
@10s4life Hey, I remember you initially thought that they might come out on the 23rd. What made you change your mind?
I’m currently debating on whether or not to take one of my AP tests, but I’m worried my application may be rescinded since I notated that I was planning to take it. I’m supposed to be taking 6 tests this year, but I’m really struggling with macroeconomics and I know I would rather put my time into my other 5 tests. Would not taking the test be grounds for my acceptance to be rescinded? I’m still going to be taking the class and I have a high B for a grade, but I just don’t understand the material well enough for me to feel confident on passing the exam.
@imwiththeband99, I don’t think it matters if you take the test as long as you take and finish the course without getting below a C. I don’t believe AP tests are a requirement for admission—or so I’ve been told, as well as my interpretation of what I have read.
Also on the UC website is this:
“Although the College Board reports all AP tests results to us, students should be aware AP test scores lower than 3 will not adversely affect their chances for admission.”
Theoretically, you could go to the test site, put your name on the test and then fall asleep until it’s over.
@imwiththeband99 Not taking AP test wont have any affect on your acceptance. My brother didn’t take 2 of them and UC Berkeley didnt care
@imwiththeband99 My son didn’t take one of his AP tests last year and didn’t have any problem with admissions. We specifically asked them about it and they said it was OK.
For those of you wondering, AP exams you said you will take on your ap are not required. You can choose to skip them even if you said you would with no adverse affect. If you submitted self reported scores then you are required to send them. However in the actual admission process AP exam scores are not used in admissions as some applicants are not able to take them. In the realm of UC admissions the actual class is the important part.
@stevensonjj0 There was a post from Ms Suns UC app blog as well as a reliable poster commenting on the prospect of UC Davis coming out this Friday. I think its now more than likely UCLA will be the 16th but there is still a slim chance my original guess was right that it will come out on March 23rd. Either way it will be very very soon. Best of luck to all the admits. Can’t wait for you all to join us at Bruin Day in April!
@10s4life Sounds legit. Sorry for being a so inquisitive, but you know better than most just how antsy we all get in the final days lol
Say I were accepted to UCLA. On my application I reported that I was planning to take AP Microeconomics second semester of this school year, but my parents forced me to drop the class due to deteriorating health. Even without AP Micro, my senior schedule still consisted of 7 AP classes and 1 honors class, and AP micro is only a semester long class, so it’s quite insignificant compared to everything else I’ve done during high school. Would the admissions office see this as a big deal and rescind my decision or would they understand because it wasn’t my choice and strictly due to having to compromise commitment in the class for my health?
@ucla9biggestab I personally agree that it seems pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things. However, it would be in your best interests to make it known (through email, phone, etc.) to admissions of this change.
Thank you!! Do you recommend I let them know before decisions are released or wait to see if I’m even admitted?
@ucla9biggestab @stevensonjj0 Any changes need to be sent to admissions as soon as they happen. If you dropped this class before the semester even began you should have let them know months ago. If you do not then you will be automatically rescinded no questions asked. Please call them when the phones open up at 9am. UCLA takes all changes to senior year schedules quite seriously as every little factor helps in decisions due to the large applicant pool. Once a student SIRs they will send in final transcripts. Any deviations from the UC app results in rescindtion.
Edit: above post claiming early acceptance was taken down. For those of you wondering UCLA will not call applicants informing them of early acceptance. All decisions come via the portal. You may receive a call once accepted from the UCLA calling center (area code 310) to encourage you to SIR and answer any questions you may have so please answer. Be patient it’s almost here!
