@PoochBell I applied to the major as a longshot since I have such a slim chance anyway and the major really interests me. The major emphasizes social activism a lot and I have worked for a lot of nonprofits interning for them in low income areas.
@cxprus Poli sci at Ucla is very strong. You’ll get a lot of diverse classes. The real key is many students get involved with USAC which is our student government. It’s like governing a small 28k person town. (The grad students have their own council)
@pvcamom For HSSEAS extracurriculars in stem are not as highly regarded as other top engineering schools. Many of the students in HSSEAS have no experience in stem outside of AP classes. They chose to invest their time in sports, student gov, and other acitivities. It’s what makes our engineering somewhat more balanced than a Caltech or similar school. URM is also not taken into account explicitly due to prop 209.
Are there any statistics associated with acceptance and receiving a supplemental questionnaire?
@TheSmartBlonde Not that I know of. I know it seems like everyone gets them because a high amount of people who do will post in cc but relatively few questionnaires go out.
@10s4life Thank you for the response! I got one and I’m extremely nervous to hear back.
Okay so yesterday I was looking over my application for the 1000th time and I realized I made the worst mistake ever and listed that I took regular US history instead of AP. It would falsely bring my GPA down a whole .1 (from a 4.4 to 4.3) I know decisions have already been made so should I bother contacting them at this point?? Or should I wait and if I am rejected try to appeal with that information? UCLA Is my dream school I can’t believe I messed that up
Just some thoughts from a fellow HS senior on the decision date:
The alumni associate reviews the scholarship applications over two days (one for socal and one for norcal) and will compile the results with statisticians. Traditionally, the applications were only reviewed the day after decisions were released so the volunteer readers wouldn’t waste time reading rejected students. According to the alumni scholarship information videos (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDeFUM9hHsM - last years applicants, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snNPFl1PJNE&t=3439s - this year), the presentation claimed that the application review days are the 17th and 18th, with the first interview being on the 31st. Although the presenter this year said that UCLA will hopefully release on the 16th (implying that this year’s schedule might be off) so that they can continue their practice of not wasting their volunteer’s time, if you factor in a reasonable amount of time they would give between notifying alumni scholarship applicants of invitations to interview and the proposed (and probably set) first round of interviews on the 31st, even if UCLA does push back the tentative decision date from the 16th, it shouldn’t be pushed back that far.
tl;dr: based on evidence from the alumni scholarship review process, UCLA prob comes out on the 16th
Ok, so I when I finished my UC application, I forgot to add one of my senior courses, Anatomy & Physiology–which is an “a-g” course, onto the application and I was already planning on dropping it second semester. I received a B, which is passing, but will the UCs see it as failing to report all classes and rescind my admission? I mean won’t it just seem better when they realize I did more? P.S I’ve already been admitted to UCI.
@Soccergirl2232 Oh wow! Did you complete the optional requirements for the portfolio as well?
I got waitlisted at UCSC, rejected from UCD and only accepted at UCM so far (UCR is still in review). Even though I got the supplemental questionnaire from UCLA, things aren’t looking too great for me so far. I’m feeling so sad right now…
@PoochBell yes I did
Yes I did the supplement
How many honor and Ap classes combined did y’all take? Mines 17
@kaelen 5 honors (Full year for each), 10 AP’s, and 2 Dual Enrollment (full year) Courses. I took every one offered except AP Art.
any update on decision date/time? When do you think it’ll come?
@10s4life I know I could google it, but do you have the 75th percentile stats at your fingertips?? My D has a 34 ACT and a 4.4 (out of state GPA). Thanks!
I attend a pretty competitive CT public school and feel ive got kinda sorta strongish stats for ucla (1480 SAT 780M/700CRW, 760 Math II SAT, 750 Chem SAT, 3.97 UW ucla gpa, 9 APs including BC calc). However, i know a lot of kids with even better stats (valedictorian, perfect scores) have applied. In years past from my hs around 20 kids apply and between 1-4 get in. The one thing i have over these super strong applicants is interest. I toured and personally sent an email to my admissions rep stating ucla was my first choice.
So basically, does ucla compare you to all applicants or just applicants from your school, and do they look at interest?
@kaelen 14 APs, 9 honors classes but my honors classes don’t even count I guess cause I’m out of state
@jrh082500 according to the common data set http://www.apb.ucla.edu/campus-statistics/common-data-set (see C7) UCLA does not consider interest and I believe as with most schools you are compared to all other applicants not just applicants from your school
