Hi I was just wondering what the most competitive majors were to get accepted to UCLA. I know they have an asteroid* for those that are competitive. However, which ones are the most competitive and do you know anyone who has been rejected because of that even though they had a high gpa? What was their gpa?

Asterisk. ;)

Somewhere on the UCOP website there is a list of admission by major for transfers. I'll see if I can find it.

Looking @ the data from 2004 ( http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof04.htm )

School of the Arts and Architecture has an admit rate of 11.43% but there are only 621 applicants and if you look @ the avg GPA it is 3.41.....same with School of Theater, Film, and Television where they accept only 5.34% but avg GPA is 3.44...so i am not sure if they are cut-throat competitive to get in. Then there is engineering school which has acceptance rate of 26.18% with avg GPA of 3.78...so I am not sure how to interpret this.

Thanks, indie_boy: that's the list I was talking about.

ETA: The programs indie_boy talks about have special admission agendas. For the first two, a portfolio is major in deciding whether you're to be admitted. Plus, they have VERY few students. For engineering, the normal IGETC rules do not apply, and engineering is pretty self-selective anyway.

You want to look at the majors purely in the College of Letters and Science, because each other school has other special requirements.

keke oh yea asterisk...silly me
