UCLA Engineering Q&A

How does MATLAB compare in difficulty with CS 31?

Thanks alot flopsy, that really helps me worry less. I really appreciate your help!

so flopsy how the parites at LA! : D

I don't know jack about Matlab.
The parities at LA? Usually odd, sometimes even.

^ never prime? DAMMIT IM A EFFING NERD NOW

Great thread! Thanks for the time you give it, Flopsy and others.
When do fall 2007 engineering applicants find out if they were accepted? I heard a rumor they find out earlier than the regular March time frame so they can make travel plans to come to the pre-frosh weekend. Is this true? If so, when? Tks.

Yes, the rumor is true. You'll find out in early March.

alright flopsy, i need you to break into admissions and take my application and put it into the "clear accept" pile. thanks!

Early March. Just around the corner. Do you know when the engineering pre-frosh weekend is?

Early April.

Early April.

Flopsy, how were you able to volunteer for that event? I'd like to this year.

I got an e-mail from the HSSEAS Educational Affairs department asking for upper-division student volunteers. Talk to the HSSEAS OASA staff if you don't get an e-mail by the beginning of Spring Quarter.

How hard is it to transfer from EECE to CSE?

When are you transferring?

Um, I don't know. I applied for Fall 2007 (Freshman), and in the event that UCLA is cheaper than UCB, then I'll probably choose UCLA. The major under which I applied was EECE, but I'm thinking of focusing more on CS. Is this an easy thing to change as a freshman? I know that it's not exactly easy to go from Mech. Eng to EECS at Berkeley, so I was wondering if it was the same at LA.

Yes, engineering majors are openly changeable as a freshman during Fall quarter, even from EECE to CSE. There are no grade requirements unlike changing into EECS at UCB, but they'll re-evaluate your high school grades and change-of-major essay.

Hey ill be signing up for english comp 3, physics 1b, physics 4al, comp sci 33 and math 33a, which ones should i use my priorty units for?

Assuming that you're a CS/CSE/EE major with 10 priority units, then I would use them for CS 33 (4 units), Physics 1B (4 units) and Physics 4AL (2 units).

1b is 5 units :/

but no one signs up for those classes anyways.. 1b is still open now, it doesnt seem to be very popular.

math always fills up quickly, so i would do math, cs, and 4al.

Whoops, I forgot that Physics 1A/1B are 5 units for some reason. In that case, I would have to also choose CS 33, Math 33A and Physics 4AL, because Eng Comp 3 is usually plentiful with varying time slots.
