UCLA Engineering Q&A

That depends on whether you're getting Engineering 195 course credit (in which case you won't have to "take the quarter off" with Murphy Hall) for the internship. I've never known anyone who took two quarters off for an internship, though... Ask HSSEAS OASA if you're not doing Engineering 195.

you can't survive engineering without good friends/study buddies....doing it alone is hell

Xcron experience that first hand...maybe go cry in corner now?...oh well...man up and hack through it...maybe straight Cs but hey...

Are there good engineering teachers at UCLA?

Are there good engineering teachers at UCLA?

For the classes I took first year, I thought the teachers were great.

Nachenberg will probably be my favorite professor ever.

Yes.

Any info/advice regarding CS 131?

Don't buy the O'Reilly Python textbook. It's overkill for one project.

is Engineering 183 considered a Writing 2 course and an ethics course? Or is it just an ethics? I've heard some people say it's a writing 2 but having seniors tell me it's not.

Prof. Weltman said they're in the process of trying to make it a Writing II . But even if it was a Writing II, you still have to take another Writing II class because Engineering 183 is not a GE.

Thanks flopsy!
So what would be your programming language of choice?

I've heard conflicting things about Engineering 183 being a Writing II course. Can neither confirm nor deny.

C++. :rolleyes:

flopsy, would be so kind as to give me some advice on this matter?

thanks :)

Would an EE lab and CS 31 be too much work for a quarter?

Just ask the counselor about the 183 thing. They keep changing the requirement for different majors.

If you haven't seen your engineering counselor in a "long" time, then it's a good time to. I saw mine a few days ago and found out some interesting about my degree progress. Lets just say a lot of classes that I should have gotten credit for isn't showing up.

What the guy said that the reason for some of the problem is that they are converting to a new degree check system where you can actually check online to see the status. In the past they told me never follow the DPR from the engineering website, and definitely don't follow the ursa one too... Basically there is still a lot of bugs to be worked out.

Engineering 183 does not give Writing II credit.

for comp sci 31, only rohr is teaching it this quarter. bruinwalk says he's really bad. should i still take it with him? or wait another quarter?

Rohr is the only teacher for Winter each year. He is not as incredibly bad as people in the past said . . even if you wait until Spring, it will be Rohr teaching again , though I am not 100% sure (since it is the first time CS 31 is available in the Spring and Nachenberg is gone) Plus, I think it would be more logical to have Rohr teach 31/33 while Smallberg teach 32 in the Spring.

No.
