UCLA External Transfer to UT Austin (TX Resident)

I’m about to finish my first year at UCLA. When I got in, I was so happy because it was my dream school, but I’ve recently realized that I might be better off at UT. The out-of-state tuition is incredibly high and (in my opinion) does not match up to the level of education I am receiving. It’s not a bad education but it’s not worth 50K each year in loans. I am a Texas resident, so UT would be much cheaper, and Austin is such a cool city with a great vibe that is more “me”. Looking back, I should have considered UT way more seriously than I did, but I put all my hopes into UCLA and although I am grateful to be here, it’s disappointed me in many ways, which is why I am looking into the transfer process.
I was automatically accepted into UT as a freshman but I don’t know if that would be considered?
I am a Chemistry major at UCLA, and I have taken 2 quarters of Chem, 2 quarters of Calc, and 5 electives. My overall GPA right now is a 3.3, and I plan on being in two clubs in the fall. (GPA could potentially go up or down because I still have finals to take.) I am not sure what major I would like to transfer into, but definitely into the Liberal Arts or Natural Sciences schools. More likely NS. I’m very worried about getting in if I choose to apply, this is something that has constantly been going through my mind the entire year. :frowning: I would really love some advice!

When I read the above I thought you were over-competitive for UCLA and were someone with UCLA GPA in the range of 3.8+ until I found out it is actually 3.3!
(Though, in general, I do not disagree with you on the “high tuition” part of your comments)

Haha nope my GPA is not super high! Since i am taking classes with pre-engineering students, i have a 3.3 which is decent for my major but i’m not sure if it’s a good enough transfer GPA. What I meant was that the education at UCLA is good, but I could receive the same level at UT or any other state school for much cheaper.
