UCLA Fall '20 Transfer Waitlist Thread

That is awesome!!! I’ve been working on my statement and I’m ready to submit it soon. I need positivity right now. Thank you for sharing!!!

Thanks for sharing! Is she transfer student or freshman?

How is that possible? I thought people waitlist apps don’t get notified until after the SIR date (June 1st)?

Major: English

GPA: 3.6

Major Prep Complete: No, missing 2 courses.

Opt-in/Opt-out: In

Reasons you may have been waitlisted: GPA, missing 2 mpc’s

Questions: How do we think we should go about writing our “Additional Comments”? They allow up to 7000 characters which is a LOT, so what should we do with that lol help

Transfers last year started hearing back in May so it is possible. Maybe they just want to speed up the process

It’s the freshman waitlist that got notified today, mostly OOS and international students. In the previous years, they are usually notified first before the wave for IS. Check out the UCLA Class of 2024 Waitlist thread if you don’t believe me haha. At least we know UCLA is using their waitlist this year.

ohh that makes sense. i thought they were referring to a transfer student. thanks for clearing that up!

Transfer or freshman?

Sorry to get you excited. She is a freshman who got in. I thought she was a transfer. :slightly_frowning_face:

Questions: Should I just move on to UCI Business admin? I feel like lots of students got into the waitlist.

Yeah, that’s good to know they’re using the waitlist. I think another thing to keep in mind is that they’ve had issues with over enrollment in the past, so they may have decided to be extra safe this year when accepting students. Especially since the # of students choosing ucla over other colleges they were admitted has risen over the years. In last year’s waitlist thread, it seems a lot of the people were able to get off the list between mid-June and early August.

Question: Does the admissions committee actually look through every person’s file again, or does it just depend on the luck of whether or not they get to yours and still have time? In other news, I know my chances are so low yet I can’t stop hoping? Please like if you are going through this too lol

@socalshehulk I emailed an admissions officer earlier today with a similar question. I’ll report back to this thread once they get back to me!

@transfer20! you’re a saint! Thank you!

Hey everyone, I was waitlisted as well. I’ve heard freshman waitlisted students sometimes write an essay? Could that be a possibility for Junior transfers as well?

@uclagal2020 yes, I think you are are referring to the LOCI (letter of continued interest). The text box that you put your grades in has a spot to optionally write something. (I am a junior as well btw) I wrote a LOCI and just c&p’d it into the box. I recommend looking at some LOCI examples online and to check out the Ms Sun LOCI advice video on Youtube. Good luck!

Hello Everyone!

I am currently typing this again, since this same exact post earlier was flagged for moderation  I’ll save this response in a word document before uploading, I digress. So, my CCC counselor to UCLA answered a few of my
questions. Thought I’d share them

  1. Previous years' enroll rates are considered when they send out acceptances. They recognize that not all the students will submit their SIR to the college, so they send out more acceptances than they have space for in each dept. Any miscalculation in this process then results in the selection of students off the hs and transfer waitlists.
  2. Individuals accepted from the waitlist are done so by major. This means that if someone in the Poli Sci dept decides not to go, the admissions officers will choose a person off the waitlist w their primary major being Poli Sci. Keep this in mind when you are writing the additional information section of the Opt-In form.
  3. High school waitlists and transfer waitlists are separate processes. We can't compare what may be going on in their waitlist to ours and vice versa.
  4. You are waitlisted for one major. Speak with your CCC to UCLA if you aren't sure which major you have been waitlisted for if you TAP certified.
  1. Again, it is important what you decide to put on your Opt-In form. I didn't ask if they review the entire application again however, this additional information section is your last opportunity to prove to them you belong at the college.

Below, I’ve attached the link to find out who your CCC counselor is to UCLA. I’d recommend reaching out to them if you have any questions. Mine responded relatively quickly.

Thank you so much for this information!
