So I just found out that the major requirement (Biology 10C) that I’m missing counts as half of two courses at UCLA. Basically UCLA requires Life Sciences 7A and 7C for my major. At my CC, Life Science 7A is Biology 10A and Biology 10C. Life Science 7C is Biology 10B and Biology 10C. Originally, UCLA wasn’t accepting Biology 10C but was accepting a course that wasn’t offered at my CCC. But this year they started suddenly accepting Biology 10C again. I wasn’t able to take the class this Spring due to scheduling and it isn’t offered at my CCC during the summer. I did finish all the other major requirement courses as well as the recommended courses. My application and waitlist essay are extremely strong but do you guys think this would be the deciding factor of whether I get off the waitlist or not?
Guys! I’m really nervous ! Do you know how many psych majors got off of the waitlist last year?
I lurked on twitter and previous waitlist chats, some people hear back early June (legit days after the SIR date), mid June, throughout July and sometimes mid August(which I find ridiculous) Let’s hope we all get a spot!
It is ridiculous waiting that long, but they are trying to fill every possible spot so whoever was accepted off the waitlist and declined, that spot was given to the next person, so on and so forth till August. Better August than never!
I’m wondering that will UCLA prioritize oos and international students, as UCLA needs more tuition fee to compensate the loss due to covid-19?
I got accepted to UC Berkeley but waitlisted UCLA.
Major: pre-sociology
GPA: 3.73
Major Prep Complete: yes, plus took extra sociology prep courses beyond what was recommended for the major
Extracurricular(s): Mostly professional experience and community service awards
TAP: Yes
Opt-in/Opt-out: Opt in
Reasons you may have been waitlisted: I think it was because I had a huge gap in my community college, and the classes i took prior to the gap I had a C & a couple of B’s. I’m also older and just generally non traditional. also pre-sociology is pretty high demand.
First Generation Student: Yes
Additional Info: I work for UCLA which, combined with good academics and good major prep, I hoped would help me out, but I kind of wonder if it might have worked against me.
Questions: I’m wondering about dates - do they look at the transfer waitlist options at ALL before May 15? I scrambled to get a decent Opt in statement written ASAP but I wonder if it even matters.
That’s good thinking, I wondered the same thing but I think decisions were already made before COVID started
I called the admission office today and they said the decision DID NOT effect by the Virus. And the size of waitlist is 5% of all applicants.
@Bonlilicheng Did they happen to mention the distribution of applicants across majors? Like, if more impacted majors have less on the waitlist compared to less impacted? i.e. 100 waitlisted for econ, 200 for poli sci, 400 for italian, etc…
No they didn’t, but I feel like there are a lot of people in the waitlist.
@Bonlilicheng Ok. I don’t know… Personally, I feel like more people would have visited this thread or posted if that were the case.
But, keep in mind:
5% waitlisted out of 26,000 applicants is 1,300 applicants which isn’t too bad considering that # is distributed throughout all of the academic majors at the college.
@nursetransfer1 To put it bluntly, not having all of your major prep complete by the end of the spring may be the difference between getting in and not. If one student is ready to go ahead and start their upper divs, then they are “on track” to graduating on time and will most likely be chosen over another student who has missing coursework.
Maybe if you had a less impacted major it wouldn’t be weighted as much, but from what I remember you had listed Nursing and Biology (both impacted) as your majors. I’d recommend reaching out to your CCC counselor to UCLA and ask them which major you’ve been waitlisted for. Unless you need this class for nursing, you may be worrying for nothing.
Also, they will consider your waitlist essay and application so keep staying positive!! I think as long as you explain what you have above succinctly, they will understand
Major: Economics
GPA: 4.0
Major Prep Complete: Yes
Extracurricular(s): tutor at the college, honors program, Phi Theta Kappa, music
TAP: Yes
Opt-in/Opt-out: Opt-in
Reasons you may have been waitlisted: No idea
First Generation Student: No
Questions: It seemed they accepted 13% of transfers, is this true?
Will less people accept due to the current situation?
Guys I think I messed up on my PIQs in my application so now I’m on the waitlist I’m so saddd idk what to do! I wanna believe I will get in but being psych major I’m not sure :(((((((((((
Major: Business Economics
GPA: 3.92
Major Prep Complete: Completed by the end of this semester
TAP: N/A
Opt-in/Opt-out: Opt-in
Reasons you may have been waitlisted: 1 W in business calc class, completed my math 1a (calc 1) class winter quarter, taking math 1b (calc 2) class this spring quarter
First Generation Student: No
Additional Info:
Accepted: ucsd, uci, ucd, ucsb
Rejected: ucb, cal poly slo
Pending: usc
Credit Hours: 123.5
I agree. I feel like that’s an OK number of applicants on the waitlist since UCLA offers so many majors. I do however think that maybe they waitlisted more people in the majors that are the most impacted. I can’t confirm this, just a thought. We should be happy we didn’t get a flat out rejection!
Whenever I try clicking on the name of my counselor, nothing happens. How do I find the contact information?
Just call them again, and the said they set the waitlist size base on the yield rate for previous years and there are no extra more people in the waitlist of the competitive majors.
Thanks for your feedback! I wasn’t able to enroll in the course this Spring semester sadly due to scheduling issues and I’m hoping I would be able to get off the waitlist considering my circumstances. I included in my waitlist essay that although I wasn’t able to complete that last class, I have been working as a CNA to help covid patients so I just hope that’ll be reason enough sigh. From what I understand, I’ve been waitlisted as my primary major (nursing) since I’m not TAP certified but I haven’t confirmed this 100% yet. I’m just so frustrated because assist.org didn’t have the course listed as a requirement when I spoke to a counselor and I was basically done with all my requirements but it was updated and now I’m just missing that one course which is obviously my fault for not checking it again. I just really hope that this one class isn’t the reason I don’t get off the waitlist.
@frogluvr Huh, that’s weird. Whenever I click on random counselor names, the mail app is revealed on my screen along with their email address. I’m not sure if you are using an apple device, but I’d think it would work with other platforms.
So, maybe try with an apple device? Or, try refreshing your screen and try again. IF that doesn’t work, I’d recommend emailing/calling your admission dept at your local college and asking them for the email.
