UCLA Fall '20 Transfer Waitlist Thread

I opened it in a new tab and the title of the new tab was the “mailto:email address of the counselor.” I did this on Google Chrome on a computer.

lol if you guys would like, I can look up your counselor’s emails and post them in this chat. Just don’t forget to @ me if you do !
@nursetransfer1 @frogluvr

@transfer20! I already got in touch with my CCC counselor for UCLA! Thank you though.

are we automatically waitlisted under our first choice major or? how do we know what major we are under the waitlist for?

Yes - from what I understand they don’t look at your alternate major at UCLA. I you logged into the Portal before the decision letter was posted it would say your major with your other application details

Just want to thank everyone who has been calling admissions and counselors then posting here what they learned, really helps!! Helped me understand that I must have been waitlisted mostly because sociology is so popular

I’m a bit confused. Someone on here said that they waitlist people based on their predicted yield rate, so does that mean that if their yield rate for a major is, let’s say 70%, will they later seek the other 30% of students from the waitlist? Or are they looking at their overall yield rate for all majors? Sorry if I sound dumb I’m just a little anxious over this

@uclahopeful4 i initially thought that was the case as well but they compensate for this difference when they send out acceptances.

For example,

Say 100 spots are available for Major XYZ at the college.

Enroll rate for Major XYZ = 70%

then, admissions will decide to accept 130 students.

Admissions is making their best prediction that exactly 70% will decide to enroll (or 30% will decide NOT to enroll) to major XYZ at the college, so they compensate for this by accepting more than necessary.

Any discrepancy in this process will result in the selection of applicants from the waitlist.

Hope this makes sense.

tl;dr: UCLA accepts more than spots available when sending out acceptances. Any miscalculation in this process will result in waitlist applicants being selected for admission.

This made me sad. But thanks for clarifying!!

@uclahopeful24 yeah, i was kinda bummed when the counselor told me this too. BUT, this is probably the best year out of any year to be waitlisted to the college

I was wondering how this is the best year to be waitlisted?

I’m guessing a certain amount of people who were planning on attending university this fall are going to defer enrollment or not go at all because of the pandemic. Therefore, hopefully more of us get off the waitlist.

You guys I have a quick question. So on the opt-in portal I inputted my LOCI and my grades and I received an email from UCLA saying I officially opted in, but the yellow submit button is still there and won’t go away regardless of how many times I click it. Is that normal?

That’s how my portal looks too. We got a confirmation email so I think we’re fine.

I called the admissions office today and they said they didn’t under enroll this year like they did last year! However we should still hope they take people off of the waitlist.

@Hnagra Yeah, I think the pandemic is going to keep OOS students and international students from committing to the college. There are a lot of articles online about this, check out this one:

https://edsource.org/2020/even-if-california-college-campuses-reopen-will-most-students-still-come/630272

Also, I believe there is an issue going on with international students obtaining visas right now. I don’t know too much about this ordeal, but I’d assume it would interfere with enrollment.

It doesn’t matter how long we wait to submit the opt-in form, right? For example, someone who submits their form on the 1st won’t be considered over someone who submitted their form on the 13th?

I asked the admissions office this same question and they said it doesn’t matter when you opt in, they will still review everyone equally.

Thank you for calling! ??

No problem  and good luck to us all
