UCLA Fall '20 Transfer Waitlist Thread

I’m wondering typically how many spots will be available for us?

@cwz250 It varies from year to year. Here is an excerpt from the article I attached earlier. We should be optimistic about the number of spots that will available for waitlisted students.

" UCLA’s vice provost for enrollment management, Youlanda Copeland-Morgan, said that deposits from California students actually are somewhat higher than normal this year, but that some international students — who this year comprised 11% of UCLA’s 31,500 undergraduates — are not likely to return to UCLA or UC’s other eight undergraduate campuses because of visa problems related to the crisis.

UCLA is likely to dip more deeply into its admissions waiting list and offer spots to more Californians and students from elsewhere in the United States, she said. “This is a very difficult and unprecedented year in terms of our ability to predict what’s going to happen,” she said. UCLA admitted only about 13% of its 109,000 freshmen applicants so far this year, she said. Traditionally, a very high percentage of those admitted wind up attending — 43% last year. "

i have tried everything, different computer and different browser, but nothing has worked :frowning: could someone send me the email for the orange coast college counselor? it looks like his name is jonathan cao-nguyen. if anyone is able to access the email through this link i would be so so so appreciative <3

ahh i finally got it to work of course right after i posted this comment!

Hello do you guys know if we are likely to get off the waitlist as psych majors? I just checked the ucla transfer Facebook page and it seems like a lot of psych majors are going this year.

You guys think OOS and international waitlists will get off early like the freshman waitlists did? I was reading the freshman waitlist thread and a huge wave of OOS and international waitlists got off before May 1 and a small wave of IS waitlists got off right on May 1. I’m not OOS or international, but I’m just curious as to how UCLA decides when to release waitlists seeing that they were releasing decisions earlier than the freshman SIR date.

Well, if we want to be more specific, the OOS and international waitlisted transfers from last year got in before the in state ones too. BUT, someone on here shared an article on what the process will most likely look like this year. The article suggested that due to the pandemic, many international and OOS students will likely not enroll.

This does not imply that UCLA is going to offer admission to less international and OOS transfers, but that since the waitlist process is done in rounds - where you have 3 days to accept your offer or it moves on to someone else - then it makes sense that this year they will accept int’l and OOS transfers first to be able to close in on their numbers and maybe protect their yield rate. The point is, they are very likely to overall accept more waitlisted students this year than the previous years.

Does anyone else feel really bad? The college admissions process is so draining and I worked so hard and idk. All of my friends got into Cal or UCLA and make it look so easy. Idk. I think the sadness is finally getting to me :frowning:

@uclahopeful4 Yes! I feel like I worked so hard and I know UCLA is super competitive especially with my major but it has been so draining on me. I worked on my essays for months before submitting my application and I felt like I put in so much more work than some friends who were admitted to both Cal and UCLA but I’m just here on the waitlist. :frowning: I’ve put so much blood, sweat, and tears (literally) into working on myself and making myself a stronger candidate but I’m still just a waitlist which makes me so sad and tired. But we can still hope for good results in June, so I’m not giving up yet. I’m trying to put all my sadness and frustration in to my waitlist essay, tweaking it and improving it each day to try and not be as anxious. We still have a chance!

I don’t know is this bad news or not. According to USC admission, the freshmen enroll rate is HIGHER than the previous year.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels this way  and same. I worked on my PIQs for 5 months and my friend did them all 3 days before the deadline and she got into Cal and I didn’t even get waitlisted there so I was just disappointed in myself. Good luck on your essay, by the way! I turned mine in already and did exactly what you did! I’m also positive about this and feel hope. If I get in though, I can already feel the imposter syndrome kicking in because I was waitlisted and not admitted the first time around.

@uclahopeful4 I know someone who did it a few days before too and got in lol. @nursetransfer1 I agree with you both. It really is exhausting. Advice articles online say “Get excited about your new school!” but like…I’m not! I’m sorry if I sound whiney…it’s just really disappointing as you said. I know this whole process is so subjective and super competitive so I’m just trying to keep that in mind. But it does feel like people make it look so easy! I know there is a lesson I will get out of this one day…haha I just have no clue what it is yet cause right now it just hurts.

I’m really glad I found this community and Reddit too so I don’t feel like I’m going through this alone. <3

Same. I got into some of the best public universities - UCI, UCSB, UCSD… and I feel whiney and ungrateful but I know I worked really really hard and being in this position sucks.

After reviewing the transfer student profiles at UCLA for 2019, I’m seeing that the enroll rate for Business Econ is about 51%. Does this mean that more students are taken off the waitlist in majors that have students that do have high rates of enrollment?

@sebptastic Probably not. They account for the enroll rates for every major when they send out the acceptances.

If you’re passion us Business Admin. I would consider to go to UCI rather than taking Business Econ. Hope that helps, go with your guts man

Hi there ! I had some questions if anyone would be willing to answer ! I am a psych major and I wanted to understand what my chances are for getting of the waitlist option. What can I state or what are some good tips I can write in my waitlist statement . I only put so far how my mother needs my care and assistance 24/7 and going away to Irvine for example would prevent me from assisting her needs since I’m the only one there to help her. Can you guys provide some tips for me? I would greatly appreciate it and I wish everyone good luck

Would it be helpful to mention current grades as a sign of an upward trend? Or just IP?

@sebptastic ^^^ yes

You’re awesome thanks
