UCLA Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

Do they differentiate overall and major GPA? Like are they 2 separate factors that are considered or only overall?

@laracroft12 Oos applicants from a 4-yr university are unfortunately low priority, but if your GPA is good, ECs are strong and have all the major prep done, then you have a good chance!

@CalifornianRoll You have a good chance

@XOcrew75 Wait, you didn’t go both times? Why’s that (if it’s ok to ask)?

@CalBear1998 are you coming from a community college and did you complete the TAP requirements?

@transfer2019stu I got in for comp sci last year and mechanical out of high school and decided i hated both of those majors

@cactus1 Yes I’m transferring from a community college and my TAP requirements are completed.

@Princetonian9 I heard UC system only counts units that are UC transferrable. I might be wrong though ?

@HarleyTheQuinn I really hope so. Nursing is so impacted and CSULA nursing rejected me already giving me anxsy

@californiaroll Yea That is true. But what im asking is if they consider your overall gpa and major specific gpa, not only overall. My overall is like a 3.4 but my major gpa is a 4.0. See the concern :unamused:

@Princetonian9 they consider your whole gpa, GPA of all the classes that would transfer, that includes GE, major specific courses and major optional courses. I have a 4.0 in my major specific classes too but got a B in one anthropology class and brought my GPA down to a 3.96 that I took for GE cred so they take that into consideration. I guess they would consider major GPA as a deciding factor but the important one would be your overall.

:open_mouth:

Hi guys, what day do you think they will release decisions, April 18 (A day before Berkley/also my bday  ) or 24 (going by last couple of years)

@leomessi10yan I think April 18th. People are saying April 24, but no source.

Did anybody make a groupme yet?

@Ohm888 Chance me for UCLA? I am applied math major. 4.0 GPA. All pre-reqs done besides 1, Chemistry 20A. I have completed IGETC. Don’t really have any good EC’s. 3 Academic scholarships.

Instead of asking for chance me’s, it’s probably faster to just chance yourselves using previous year’s stats: http://www.admission.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof18_mjr.htm
Your GPA is what we can base most of the chance on anyway, since we can’t see your entire application.
Also 4.0 GPA people with pre-reqs IP or done, ya’ll already know that you’re at least at or above the 75th percentile GPA for most/all majors so why even sweat?

@jedenic I think it’s kind of a tradition on college confidential. Plus you provide your stats for future applicants who may find it helpful. 4.0’s may be lacking in terms of other components of the application such as EC’s or essays. It’s just nice to be able to get it out there. Feels like we aren’t alone in this whole process. Very useful link you provided. Also if anyone wants to see how many people in their community college got in for their major and other statistics like acceptance rate by year use: https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major

@jedenic yeah but its really comforting to have a bunch of strangers from the internet tell you that you have a great chance of getting in to every school ever

@CalBear1998 I understand asking for chancing when it is early on in the application process and people are trying to see what more they can do, or anything they may lack in their application.
But now that decisions are most likely already made, it’s kind of pointless besides getting some reassurance. You can also just post your stats and leave it here.
Just seeing a surge of chance me’s with 3.9+ GPAs at this point of time not being responded to prompted me to post above.
