UCLA Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

@CalBear1998 On my end I’m just not eating anything in general. Like I usually got back to back classes that last 10 hours and whatever time I’ve got left I’ve been investing in my clothing business. I basically skip breakfast, lunch, and dinner. My Doctors HATE ME SO MUCH… I keep telling them that I simply just gotta stay on my toes and pull through this semester with 29 units but they keep yelling at me to focus on my health. I know that for sure I will put my own life together back on track after this decision, as they keep telling me that a 19-year-old kid needs to have a normal life, not always working or studying.

yeah man I’m definitely gonna focus on my health and eat food haha after the 19th for sure

@GoodAfternoonSir Oh my gosh, 29 units?! That is something else! I hope Haas sees how hard you have been working because that’s just crayyy lol. I really hope you get into Haas. Wishing you the best!

@CalBear1998 Thx bro! I hope you get in as well! I’ve checked you out and your stats are extremely impressive so I have no doubt you’ll get in!

@FutureHaasBear Thank you Sir!

@GoodAfternoonSir Do all 29 of your units transfer? Are you taking all of that at a CC or some at CSU as well? Kinda would be careful with that if some are CSU. My friend had a 4.0, but didn’t get into haas bc some of her courses were from a csu called Sacramento State that she thought would transfer. :frowning:

@FutureHaasBear I spoke with my Berkeley Advisor and she said all of my classes including the ones I took at a 4 year were transferable

I took a total of 30 Units last semester, 23 Units at CC and 7 units at 4 year. This semester I’m taking 25 Units at CC and 4 units at 4 year.

My advisor was one of the transfer assistant directors at UC Berkeley so she’s probably correct about my courses. Plus, these courses were accepted for my TAG at Davis so I’m assuming it will work for Berkeley too for sure.

In other words, I made sure that the classes I did take at my 4 year were transferable as verified by my Berkeley Advisor. So I should be okay!

well, ncaa championship ends for this year with Virginia winning the title.

Hey, everyone!

Just found this thread, and I’m glad to know I’m not the only one stressing big time. Personally, I’m hoping decisions will come out before berkeley’s (duh).

Also, any other art history majors on here?

Anyone else got severe transferitis? I just have no motivation for my classes this semester, I’ll spend hours watching lectures from schools I applied to rather than study for my CURRENT classes lmao. I’m just so glad I planned my classes knowing this would happen to me and made this is my easiest semester.

@stressexpress i’m an architecture major which is relatively close in terms of our application process !! as in i also had to submit a portfolio haha

@stressexpress Hey! I’m an art history major too! This is probably the first time I saw an art history major on the thread haha

@sleepypolarbear I want to take it easy in my classes but I can’t stop thinking about the possibility of getting rejected from my top grad school because I slacked off this quarter, lol. Even though they say grad schools focus on your post-transfer GPA and the CC GPA doesn’t matter… Can’t shake that anxious feelin’ ?

I thought grad schools look at everything

@Princetonian9 they do look at everything. However, they care more about how you perform in the last two years of the undergrad.

what if you attended a uc for a year then another uc for like 4 months then 2 years of cc

@willowstil wait say what?!?! Grad schools focus on school GPA after transferring? I did not know that!

I didn’t think they differentiated between the two other than if the school practices grade deflation or inflation. I thought they just look at the entire gpa over four years rather than separating the two.

Same here @GoodAfternoonSir

@Princetonian9 I suggest you to give a look into this thread…
http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/1770932-how-do-graduate-schools-look-at-former-community-college-transcripts-for-uc-transfers.html

As someone has stated “Graduate schools typically put the most weight in your final 90 quarter units/ 60 semester units. While your CC grades are looked at, grad schools are must concerned with your upper division units, and major coursework.”

In your case I believe, 2 years at cc does not offer upper division units. so where ever your upper division units are at, they will look more into them than looking at your overall gpa.

@GoodAfternoonSir @Princetonian9 They definitely look at everything, but they focus on grades from the last 2 years. That’s the case with any grad applicant, but I think they weigh the last two years even more heavily for CC transfers, since that’s when the rigor steps up, hence those grades would be more indicative of your academic prowess.

@willowstil Oh wow. Assuming I get into berkeley and earn a high GPA over there (easier said than done), and having a great LSAT score (currently studying, going to take exam in november), I’d like to apply to the Ivy’s straight after graduating. Of course I’ll also be applying to UCLA and UC Berkeley Law School too

I hope that if I do get into either UC Berkeley or UCLA, I can take some law classes and get recommendations from them, after all if there are faculty at the school you’d like to attend rooting for you, then it’s pretty much a done deal in my opinion.
