Wondering if you are still considered for admission if you weren’t in an honors programs. Can someone gauge based in my stats?
Sociology Major
3.83 transfer GPA
Got a B in my intro to soc, B in stats, and an A in social problems. I am listing these because they are the major prep courses.
Major prep will be done by the end of this fall.
President’s honor roll twice, Vice president’s honor roll once.
IGETC: Done
TAP: No
ECs: Worker at a county library, housekeeper, founder of high schools crisis team and I lead multiple peer support groups at my community college. I also did cheerleading in highschool and got MVP twice, although as a transfer student I don’t think they are looking much at high school.
The biggest thing I am worried about is the TAP, which I didn’t know about until a few months ago. Gosh darn CCC counselors sometimes leave out important info.
@uchopefulsoc hi…my daughter is a new transfer at ucla this year and a sociology major as well. Like you, no TAP. Her CC didn’t offer that program, She had IGETC completed like you. Her only real EC was working at a part time food service job. Major prereqs completed. 4.0 GPA. .Not having TAP isn’t a deal breaker. Wishing you the best of luck!
Major: Cognitive Science
GPA: 3.62 (Because of 2 classes I took at 14 while in high school)
TAP: Yes
PreReq: All but Calc 2 completed by the end of this semester
IGETC: Will be completed by Spring 2020
Essays: 9/10 maybe 9.5/10 they were pretty good.
ECS: Work 50 hours a week as a CTO of an automotive media firm. Volunteer and am heavily involved in church homeless help program. Pay my own bills and took leadership roles after the family had financial hardships due to my Dad’s major health issues. Also, I am part of the Scholars program at my CC and TAP has been completed.
Chance me, please! My GPA would be well over a 3.8 if not for the two classes I took during high school. I hope the admission officers read that and take it in mind, the last 1.5 years I have maintained straight A’s. My ultimate goal is to create software using A.I. tech that can help those with learning disabilities.
I don’t think not having TAP can hurt you. Only some CCC’s offer TAP, so by default it’s impossible for everyone applying/accepted to have TAP. It just helps your chances if you have it, but they don’t consider you any less if you don’t have it. Don’t worry! your stats are good as is anyway.
I am worried about my Major Prep Courses though, hmph. My Intro to Sociology course was the toughest I ever took and was really difficult to work with. I hope that doesn’t hold me back. Does your daughter know any other UCLA soc majors that got in with a 3.35 in their major prep classes?
Major: Computer Engineering
GPA: 3.94
Major Prep GPA: 4.0
IGETC: Completed by Spring
Pre-Reqs: Completed by Spring (2 in progress)
Applying to: UCLA, UCB, UCD, UCSB, UCI, and UCSD
@uclahistory2020 you submit next June after you SIR to one campus. However, some UCs might ask for unofficial transcripts before then. If they do, screenshots from portal work.
Major: Economics
GPA: 3.71
Major Prep GPA: 3.61 (this is my biggest weakness, could make me get denied. Had a rough start to CC, happened to take a major prep class)
IGETC: Completed by Spring
Pre-Reqs: Completed by Spring (1 in progress)
Applying to: UCLA, UCB, UCD, UCSB, UCI, and UCSD
Hey guys, I just stumbled upon this thread and figured I’d jump in
Transferring from a CCC
Major: Geography
GPA: 4.0
Major Prep: Completed Fall 2019
IGETC: Will be completed by the end of Spring 2020
EC: College Speech and Debate, Dean’s List (Fall 2018 - Fall 2019), high school Model UN, founder and president of my high school’s cinema club, active in a student-organized service group in high school, volunteer at my church as a small group leader
Applying to: UCLA, UCSB, UCI, UCSD, Occidental College, Ponoma College
Getting into UCLA has been my primary goal since I started community college so I’m anxiously waiting for April to roll around. Those decisions can’t come soon enough.
I’ve been reading through this whole thread and there are some incredibly impressive people applying for Fall 2020. Best of luck to all of you guys!
@GeogUCLA Finally someone with a geography major! You will most likely to get in with that GPA unlike me that applied with a 2.9 and an out of state student.??
But best of luck to you and your educational journey !!
So the transfer academic update is available for those who did not know. I was updating my planned courses for the winter and spring but ran into an issue. My school does not offer the course I had planned to take during the winter until the spring so this winter I will not be taking any classes. However when I left the winter term blank it says that I need to put in a course for that term. I dropped the class before the withdrawal date so it is not on my record. Does anyone have any idea what to do ?
Interesting. I think I would put the course in that you had planned. In additional comments note you dropped the course and it is not on your record but the TAU is making you put something in.
I’m nervous as hell. I applied as an English major and my goal is a 3.8 or 3.79 depending on how you look at it.
I have 8 Ws ?. It’s alot but it’s because I switched majors and I got super sick in 2017. I have dropped anything since.
I didn’t take any EC I just work a part time job.
My essays were good. I wrote about taking care of my incarcerated aunt’s child and essentially being a overnight parent. I wrote about my creativity in horror stories, and I wrote about a gallbladder surgery that forced me to take 21 units.
I’m a English major so Cal and UCLA are super impacted and that’s where I’m dying to go. I also applied to Santa Barbara, San Diego and Irvine.
Anyone know my chances?
Hello everyone!
Applied for Transfer from a SoCal CC for Fall 2020
Wanted to share my stats; UCLA is my first choice!
Intended Major: Public Affairs
Back-up: History
School 1 GPA: 3.31 (24 credits)
School 2 GPA: 4.0 (40 credits)
Major Prep: Completed Fall 2019
IGETC: Will be completed by the end of Spring 2020
EC: Scholars and TAP certified, President of Active Minds, AGS honor society, Wellness Ambassador for CA Community Colleges, member of the National Student Advisory Board for Active Minds, ICC delegate, Dean’s List honor.
I am a non-traditional student (in my early 30’s), have two part-time jobs, volunteer, and am also applying to Cal, UCI, Columbia GS, and USC.
Wishing everybody lots of luck with transfer. Will be monitoring this thread/helping out where I can.
@brbruneel I’m also applying as an out of state applicant but I’m just worried about credits transferring over and how that may affect my application. I could never get a clear answer from anyone but I have pretty good gpa and some EC’s
@corsair341 i applied as a public affairs major as well. I was waiting to see someone else on this page apply as that since it’s so new! Unfortunately my school doesn’t have the TAP but I’m hoping my strong gpa, completion of igetc, and one more pre req class completed by end of spring gets me in. Wish u the best of luck hopefully one day we will be class mates lol
I happened across the new Public Affairs major last Spring and it is perfect. Exactly what I wanted to study without having to create my own major from different concentrations.
Its been mentioned in this thread already, but worth repeating.
TAP is helpful, but not a deal breaker for those who don’t have it. Strong GPA, essays, and EC’s go a long way.
CSU-CC-UC Students HELP
Hey guys so I attended a California State University for my freshmen year, then left to a California Community College, and have submitted my CC transcripts to the UC’s.
Do I have to submit my CSU transcripts as well? I listed my coursework from the institution on my UC application.
