UCLA - Financial Aid

I just got accepted to UCLA, but I don't like my FA.

My EFC is 500, but my Meeting Net Cost is $10600 (Some work study, direct sub & unsub loans and Perkins Loan.)
I thought that as a freshman I can take only $5500 in loans.
Do you guys have Perkins Loan too?

UCLA packet is a little better then my UCD packet, where I have to come with $3800 in cash.

However my UCSD FA packet is the best only $5000.

me too :frowning:
oh well

I don’t like mine either…how can I increase my loans?

It says mine isn’t available… the heck!!!

Yeah, UCLA is expecting me to take out to much loan money, so I don’t think I’m attending. It’s good to know that I got in though, ego boost FTW!

Why is UC so expensive?
When my sister went to UC two years ago, she had to take only $5500 in loans first year and $6500 second year.
Why do I have to take Perkins loan on the top of $5500? What will be next year?

Does anyone know about the Blue & Gold opportunity plan? I would assume we could benefit from that program but I really don’t know much about it. I also don’t want to take out all those loans.

calculate your true cost, its common sense. tuition + dorm (all freshmens get a triple anyway unless youre a Regents scholar) was around 23k last year. 24k if you dont waive the health insurance. 32k is a budget, not your true cost and if you still believe that you need to take out that many loans, I dont know why you need that extra 9k.

kaizera15 : How about food?
Is there a chance for single or double in first year?

The Blue & Gold opportunity plan covers your tuition only if your income is less then 80K.

If your EFC doesn’t change, your Award Leter stays the same.

When I log in to my FAO page, its says it’s not available to me? What the heck?

Where did you guys find your financial aid packet? Im dying to see it, because it will help me chose between there and UCSD!

Atleast you guys get something :(. OOS and no finaid besides loans for me… 55k. 36k EFC is brutal

@Lkook93: I found out via my FAO page…

Have logged on several times; still can’t access my sons FA package. I get the message “This page only available to UCLA students”. Are those of you unable to get your FA getting the same message???

Lkook93 and Nettsky, I’M GETTING THE SAME MESSAGE! I want to see my FA package!!

needtoknownow & Lkook93 if you firgure out how to get in please let me know.

Newly admitted students can access their financial aid information. Please review the Admissions website: New Student Checklist at:

You will first need to create a UCLA Logon ID and password (just follow the link/instructions). Once that is completed, you will use that logon ID to access your electronic Provisional Award Notification (financial aid).

So for instate students ucla doesnt really cost 32k to attend? I got 22k of financial aid money.
