Hey so im torn between ucla and uci. I been to ucla once but it seems there are alot of brodudes there. Nothing wrong with that but not my type of people. Im shy and more academic inclined. I am social but in a totally new area I might get really introverted. I feel more at home with nerdy people are there any at ucla? My gut is telling me ucla but I dont like LA too much.... any tips or suggestions?

Choosing UCI over UCLA is like choosing to bone Venus Williams after a 3 hour tennis match over Jessica Alba on the beach.

Why would there be more nerdy people at UCI than at UCLA?

I heard the people at uci tend to be more nerdy…

Asian =/= nerdy

My friend who goes to UCI said that by about midnight everyone is asleep or inside there.

I think he was exaggerating, but who knows.

not because they are Asian but my friend went there and she said its more nerdy there. Maybe thats what I prefer I dunno

UCI is more nerdy. I go there all the time…don’t ask me why. But I live close.

no no no no no…UCLA HAS A LOTT OF NERDS and preps who were the kind of ppl OBSESSED ABOUT getting into college…its basically ur nerds in high school trying to act like partiers and bad a-s-s-e-s…its a total materialistic mess…tons of nerds here…but there are good ppl tho…everybody thinks ucla is a party school when it isnt…neither is UCI…ppl call it a commuter school…oh and ya UCLA is dead on the weekends too…ppl at UCLA are really focused on their goals…even the kids who try to act like they are partiers…go where u will be more comfortable and happiest

I don’t think one is nerdier than the other. It can be as nerdy as you want it to be.

Another thing – I think there is a difference in whether you are more of a math/science person vs. liberal arts (English, art, theatre, poli sci, etc) student. UCI has buildings in a circle, essentially, and my recollection is that it’s about 3/4 math/science oriented. UCLA, on the other hand, seems to be split by what is still referred to as north campus/south campus split, with south campus being the math/science group, and north campus being the liberal arts group.

North campus tends to have more free spirited types. Then there’s the division on both sides by school spirit (sports enthusiasts, game goers, rah rah stuff) – which tends to be the cross-over between north and south campus.

Although UCLA has, in my view, become a bit more conservative over the last 2 decades (you never would have seen religious or right wing tabling in my day), it is definiately not as conservative as UCI.

Both are commuter schools.

It sounds like you have some (wrong) preconceptions of UCLA, but whatever those preconceptions are, I’m not sure why your gut is telling you UCLA when you are basically saying you prefer the feel of UCI.

Why is this a difficult choice?

Of course UCLA… !

you should visit both campuses!! though tbh (okay it’s bad that i’m stereotyping at all) XD but to me it feels like ucla has more of the “nerdy” type. all the people/asians i know going to uci are very… not nerdy. like there’s a lot of dancers there, more social people

UCI is horrible. I live 5 minutes away, and it’s pretty much the butt of everyone’s jokes at my school. All of the emo, high-ranked, asian/indian girls go there.

Those two schools are so big population wise that I’m sure you can find the ppl you need to support you along the way and just hang out with or whatever
That problem being null, go with LA

yeah I hate b-boy dancers lol so i guess its la
