UCLA from a Socal perspective?

So I was accepted off UCLA's waitlist a couple days ago. I was just wondering, what do kids from socal think of UCLA? I'm from the bay area and Berkeley never had any appeal to me... but I think that's due to the fact I've lived around here for so long and tend to hear the more negative aspects of the school.

It would be great if I got a socal kid's perspective. Did any of you end up choosing a school up north? and why? Is UCLA more prestigious than Berkeley in Socal?

it’s the most prestigious school in socal. In CA as a whole, Stanford and Berkeley are obviously ahead with UCLA coming in at 3rd.

I would go as to say that many LA people see UCLA the same way you see Berkeley. Because it’s so close to home and because people have lived around the area, it has no major appeal to them. It’s just another good school in the area. Among the educated, it’s not viewed as extremely prestigious, but just as a pretty good, above average school. Among less educated crowds, people, it’s highly up there.

Other than that, it’s virtually the UC Berkeley of Southern California. Except with better sports, isn’t as wacky and liberal, and is a LOT cleaner and nicer.

I don’t think UCLA is better than Caltech but I do think it is better than Berkeley.
