UCLA Honor's Program Transfer Hopeful

Im currently a CCC student and I finished my first year w/ a 3.5 GPA (Pretty low to transfer to UCLA, I know.)

I would like to join their honor's program IF I get accepted to UCLA, but on their website it says that you need to have at least a 3.75 at the time of application to be eligible.

I know that my chances of transfering aren't that high to begin with and that I'm counting my chickens here, but is there anyway I can join the honor's program either way, say, if I raise my GPA by the end of spring before transfer?

Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

You are correct—you need to get accepted to UCLA first. The good news, is, if you are accepted, then the honors program invitation could still be a possibility based on this information on their site:

Incoming Transfers

UCLA Admission letters will be mailed out to those accepted incoming Transfer Students beginning April. If you have been accepted to UCLA, congratulations! Everyone here at Honors Programs welcomes you to the UCLA community, and we hope to meet you soon and work with you throughout your tenure at the university.

How to Qualify
All incoming Transfer Students must be admitted into the UCLA College of Letters & Science in order to qualify for admission into the College Honors Program. (Students admitted to the following schools are not eligible for our program at this time: School of Arts and Architecture, School of Theater, Film, and Television, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and School of Nursing.)

In order to qualify for the College Honors you must have at least a 3.75 cumulative transfer GPA*. Please note that this is the GPA that you reported on your UC application - not your current GPA.

*UCLA College Honors Program reserves the right to modify or adjust its admission requirements.

I was just at UCLA Orientation yesterday, so I still remember some overly packed information in my brain.

If you get accepted, even if your GPA isn’t high enough, you can still qualify for the honors program as a “Continuing Student”.

As a Continuing Student at UCLA, you have to have a 3.5 or higher and 12 graded units at UCLA, so you can qualify for honors program as early as winter quarter the year that you transfer in.

Thanks manderzzzz.

I feel a little less stress. Now I have to stress over actually getting ACCEPTED to UCLA :)

No problem, UCLAudia. Good luck with getting in!
I’m also trying to get into the honors program. At the time I applied (in November), I had a 3.70 GPA—it was .05 of a GPA point TOO LOW. By January of the application update, it had gone up to 3.75. I was like… WTHHH???. But it doesn’t bother me anymore…my first quarter will be getting used to the pace of classes, etc and then if my GPA’s high enough, I’ll apply for the program. :]
