To those who are going to UCLA, I am wondering, what are your plans for housing? Are you going on-campus or off-campus, and why?

I am asking because I am having some sort of a dilemma over which to pick. Off-campus housing is supposedly a bit cheaper but less beneficial than on-campus. Plus, it's first year, so yeah...
On campus or off campus, which one are you planning?

Off campus housing in Westwood is very expensive. It is always best to try to get on campus housing and find friends whom you might later want to share an apartment later off campus. But, be prepared for high rents.

Ugh...I take worse pictures than Amy Winehouse. I'll look like a convict, so no...I haven't submitted my picture yet. But I'll eventually work up the bravery to do so before too long. They say the deadline is before you move in, but I don't want to go that far.

I think you can check at MyUCLA under My Housing.

yeah I just found out I have to send a picture. I wonder why? Are they gonna match my facial expression from one picture to someone else's picture lol?

And aren't plazas really expensive? I am thinking residence hall would be good enough but gonna check out.

I checked out the UCLA residential area with my gf today and was able to sneak into the Rieber Hall and check out the floors. It looks very nice. I'm kind of turned away by their lack of food courts though. They have 4-5 all in the residential area for the meal swipes, but none of the food courts on the main campus accept the meal plans.

I recommended to my gf to live on campus for the first year and off campus her last year.

So I'm filling in my housing app, and am lost. I don't know where I want to live. All of my buddies are going to other schools, so I'm pretty much all alone here. My parents aren't going to help me with paying, so that's another factor. I put for my facility type preferences: Uni Apartments, Res Plaza and Res Hall. Obviously I will be living with someone else no matter where I live, it's just that I have no idea where to live. Anyone have any experiences/advice?
