From what I've heard, first years normally get triples no matter their preferences. Is this true?! Are there higher chances in getting a double if I choose a specific kind of dorm (plaza, halls, suites)? I really do not want a triple...

Chill. Triples are not as bad as they seem. Some (~10%) get doubles, but most people get triples. It may sound bad, but you get used to it and in some cases, a triple is even better than a double. For example, if you have a triple, if one of your roommates sucks, your other roommate could still be a good roommate, and you could end up at least becoming friends with him/her. If you have a double and your roommate sucks, then there’s nothing you can do (besides switching to another room which I will say is not easy)
