I’m hoping to get in off the hssrp waitlist…

Anyone know for sure if they are declining a spot? Anybody get into hssrp AND tech camp? Because that will for sure open up one spot…

I opened an application but never submitted it (or wrote any essays/submitted transcripts) cause I got into SIMR before it was due, and I just got the email telling me I haven’t been selected… lol.

Anyway, I think a lot of spots will open up because a lot of kids will have other summer programs or internships lined up by now.

so i guess if you haven’t received a rejection letter, then you are at least on the waitlist…

anyone else get accepted to hssrp besides those two that posted earlier?

Here’s the email if anyone wanted to see it:

Congratulations ________!

The UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science is happy to announce that you have made it as an initial selection to participate in the 2012 High School Summer Research Program. This year, the High School Summer Research Program (HSSRP) received over 300 applications for only 60 spaces. We are pleased to inform you that faculty advisors are currently reviewing your application above a highly competitive pool. Although your admission cannot be guaranteed yet, we are very confident a faculty advisor will select you. We expect faculty advisors to reply with your admission within the next couple of days.

It is very important that you send a reply email no later than Wednesday May 30, 2012 to William Herrera at williamh@ea.ucla.edu confirming you would accept a faculty advisor’s offer. We do have a waiting list and we will not be sending out any denial letters until we are sure all accepted spots have been secured and the waiting list has been exhausted. Please reply to this e-mail immediately to notify us that you are still interested and would accept the offer.

Once again, congratulations on your initial selection! We look forward to officially accepting you in the next couple of days.

Sincerely,

William Herrera, M.Ed.

wow… that is an EXTREMELY ambiguous acceptance email…

was there a special committee who made “initial selections”? did faculty advisors not partake in that?

Hey guys, any of you applied to, got accepted, or going to the UCSB Summer Research Mentorship Program? Aside from the cost, how would you compare it to the UCLA HSSRP?

did you get into both?

I don’t know specifically about the programs, but I would definitely go with HSSRP, solely because it’s at a more prestigious university.

anybody who got in know that they aren’t going? particularly in bioengineering?

UCLA HSSRP is much more prestigious. I looked into UCSB last summer and got the impression that they take most people who will pay. UCLA actually pays a stipend (unless you live on campus) which should tell you something.

if anyone gets in off the waitlist (which should be sending out emails tomorro), please post!

waitlist out today…

anything for anyone yet? i would have expected them to send out emails in the morning…

Nothing yet for me

has anyone emailed/called them to ask for waitlist results?

still noone that has gotten waitlist/rejection?

Has anyone gotten an email from a faculty advisor?

Not yet… have you? ^

I haven’t either. What did you pick for your top 3?

Chemical, Computer, Mechanical.
You?
