I am currently an undergraduate biology major at a private 4 year college (Pacific Union College) but I really would like to transfer to UCLA junior year. I want to go there because I was treated at the UCLA medical center and really owe them for helping me get my health back (and the research program/ academics of course). I understand the best way to get accepted into UCLA is via the community college system, so I wonder if it makes sense to attend a community college for sophomore year or stick to where I am at and apply from there? I have a good GPA and leadership roles in my current school. I started my own club and have good connections with my professors. I just don’t want to mess up my chances of getting into UCLA— I missed the freshman deadline because I was in the hospital (UCLA ironically).
Priority is given to CC to UC transfers, followed by UC to UC and CSU to UC transfers and then in-state Private universities.
If you are doing well academically at your current college, then it might make sense to remain there.
Here is the UC transfer GPA admit ranges by major and campus to help gauge your chances and see where you stand currently.

There is also this think which is admissions by source college: https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/admissions-source-school
Thank you, I will look into those links. I applied to Riverside for winter admission, and I think I have a good shot there, but at the time of the UCLA application I’d still be at my old school, so it really doesn’t make sense to go to UC Riverside for spring then Hopefully UCLA for fall.
