if i got into ucla law school, what would my chances be with los angeles and bay area big law firms?

if i also got into uc berkeley, nyu law school, penn jd/mba, should i turn down ucla for one of these if i am determined to practice in a big law firm in northern california or southern california.

Well, I would certainly turn down UCLA for Berkeley, because you said that you would consider working in SF in addition to LA. Berkeley has a (slightly) better reputation than UCLA does. While obviously UCLA has better connections into LA, Berkeley has better connections to SF, so it's a wash.

The big firms recruit at the schools they want to attract students from. I recruited for a big SF firm for years and I can tell you that we did and they still do recruit at NYU and Penn. Not so much UCLA. Schools like NYU, Penn, Yale, Harvard, UVA, Georgetown, etc. generally have OCI from big firms all over the country. Just be aware that the legal market is hurting bad right now, with SF particularly impacted.

I heard that UCLA does not place as well as the T-14 in Northern California. UCLA, while a good school, is still regional. Unless you know that you want to only work in Southern California, I think you'd be crazy to choose UCLA over any of the schools you listed.
