I'm curious as to what kind of volunteering one would do at the UCLA Hospital. Is it more hands-on, or more paperwork type stuff? Is it competitive, or do they take you as long as you qualify? I'd appreciate it if someone could tell me about their experiences volunteering...or if they've heard anything. Thanks much.

You can be a door greeter, patient escort (wheelchair patients around), paperwork in the volunteer office, work at the Matel hospital playing with the little kids…I think thats it. After like 80 hours you can work at the ER. Still not sure what those responsibilities are.

Most people do care extenders at the santa monica hospital and thats mostly clerical work from what I hear. Though you can ask the nurses questions if you look interested enough they’ll be happy to teach you things.

it’s a good experience and pretty popular cause the hospital is right there. not hard to get in at all. heard child life is the most interactive (play with kids)

about care extenders, i heard the same things…mainly clerical work. really depends what department you get. a lotta people say ronald regan is better though care extenders sounds better on paper. plus, some of the department shifts for care extenders are in the santa monica hospital while ronald regan is right there next to ucla
