if you want to get something meaningful out of volunteer do programs like EMRA, ARC, or Stroke Study. These are a lot more competitive to get into, but for a good reason

Are these programs related to medicine? And where can I find more information about them?

Good: Experience in the hospital, talking to patients, knowing the system (policies)

Bad: Very strict, not very flexible with schedules (have to plan a month in advance, which is unrealistic and can only change your shift three times per month), have to do 15 four-hour shifts per quarter.

You can see procedures if you’re proactive, have good rapport with the nurses, and show curiosity (CTICU, 7W CTU, NICU), but try to avoid rotations which are mainly desk jobs (9th floor Ronald Regan MC). The first two rotations are usually subpar, but if you stick with it you can get into some pretty decent rotations.

EMRA is a pretty neat program, and I definitely recommend it. ARC is alright. Stroke Study is ok too, but Starkman will be an ass if you’re not on top of things. One of the best you can get into is Venice Family Clinic (one of the positions there has you taking basic vitals and performing fingerstick glucose/cholesterol screenings, don’t remember what it was called, and there’s a three-month waiting period before you can get into it).
