Being in-state helped lol[/li][/ul]General Comments: I wasn’t considering any of the UC’s, seeing as how I don’t qualify for Cal Grants and would still have to pay over 20k for UCSD. But UCLA gave me a 10K scholarship and a grant, which definitely puts it back up on my list! Great school! Best wishes for everyone else on their college journey!

Accepted in Computational Bio!!Son will post detailed stats later as he is away.
Does anyone know if decisions on Regent Scholarships are out? Son was invited to apply for it back in Feb. The acceptance page does not say anything about scholarships. Congrats to everyone who got in! Others, best of luck with next college decision outcome.

[] Strengths: SAT score, personal statements, GPA, rigorous courses
[] Weaknesses: Lack of major awards, could have done more community service
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: A good GPA and a good SAT score, plus showing my passions in my personal statements[/li][/ul]General Comments: In addition, I’ve been accepted to UC Irvine, UC Riverside, San Jose State, San Diego State, CSU Fullerton, and CSU Long Beach, and rejected by U Chicago. Still waiting on UC Berkeley, Yale, Columbia, Cornell, Stanford, and USC. UCLA is definitely at the top of my list, as they have a great English program and I love the campus and atmosphere- they also are offering me great financial aid. I could very well be attending this fall, and would love it! Congrats to my fellow admitted may-be-Bruins, I’m sorry to all those who didn’t get it in, and good luck to everyone in the rest of college admissions!

[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: Asian (Taiwan)
[] Gender: Female
[] Income Bracket: Low
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.): First generation
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Essays and GPA
[] Weaknesses: Extracurricular and volunteer; I didn’t have a ride in my 9th and 10th grades so I wasn’t involved in anything those two years except for a in-school-hours club in sophomore year.
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: My recent film achievements and my focus on personal growth in the essays[/li][/ul]General Comments: Won’t be able to attend because of financial reasons, so I’m probably going to a public university within my state. Still waiting on Berkeley and Columbia and got wait listed at UChicago. Sad to not be able to attend UCLA, but good luck to everyone who goes there!

Decision: Waitlisted

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 1950 (670 CR, 690 M, 600 W) 2010 super score (I know the UCs don’t take them, but they say it never hurts to send it in)
[] ACT: N/A

[] UC GPA: 4.5
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): top 5%

[] Job/Work Experience: none
[] Volunteer/Community service: Keeper volunteer at the zoo, water district rep, local elementary school garden, earthwatch, over 500 hours in all
[] Personal Statement: one solid, the other was about the cultural in sight I got while in the amazon. I sent them to a former UCLA admissions person to correct and he said the second one was amazing…
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: yeah, but I for sure don’t qualify
[] Intended Major: General Biology
[] State (if domestic applicant): CA
[] Country (if international applicant): N/A
[] School Type: Public magnet
[] Ethnicity: white/Chinese
[] Gender: Female
[] Income Bracket: ~150,000
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.): field research experience
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: GPA, I put a lot of time into my ECs, essays
[] Weaknesses: SAT (though they really aren’t all that bad), didn’t take SAT II, not many ECs
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: looking back it was probably a mistake to apply as a bio major. With my SATs I can’t really compete with all the stellar pre-med students out there. Also my school has two magnets, I’m the top student in my science magnet, but the other one is a highly gifted magnet where all the students take a crazy amount of APs, most of which aren’t offered to students in my magnet. Therefore, even though I am likely valedictorian I am ranked like 30/690, and my school is classified as a feeder school because of the other magnet, meaning that I may have just not been as good as the other applicants from my school.
[] Where else have you been accepted/waitlisted/rejected:
Accepted- UCSD (Muir), Davis, Irvine (CHP)
Waitlisted- UCLA
Rejected- none yet
[/ul]General Comments:
All in all, I was never really planning to go to UCLA, it was more of a “let’s see what happens” app. I’m not too upset, maybe even a little glad to have been even put on the waitlist. My dream school is Berkeley and I’m hoping that my chances are better there because my intended major is not impacted and supposedly one of the easiest to get into (30% is what’s rumored, but that’s not why I applied for it), but still being waitlisted at LA is freaking me out that I won’t get into Berkely. If I don’t get in, I may accept the waitlisted status, but I would actually rather go to Davis for Animal Bio.

[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.): First gen college student is a hook? I’ll tell you being an asian (ORM’s) doesn’t help with college apps!

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Scores/ Passion/ Consistency (see below)
[] Weaknesses: UW GPA
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I definitely think it was due to my consistency in my liking of math. For instance, I applied as a math major, one of my essays was about how I originally became to like math, I got a perfect math ACT, SAT, and SATII, I competed on my school’s math team for 4 years and for the first 3 years I helped compete with the grade above mine, I participated in many math competitions that my school offered, I received (small yet heartwarming) awards from my school for various things, and I took a Number Theory course over the summer at another school. Having a straight B’s in Spanish and mostly straight B’s in English and History couldn’t have helped I imagine.
[/li]

[/ul]General Comments: My scores definitely helped a whole bunch but as you can see, my unweighted gpa was around .16 lower than last year’s average (I think). I do think it was my consistency and want to study math that really pushed me over to the admit pile. Good luck to everyone!!!

[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: [/li][/ul]General Comments: I’ve been accepted to the University of Alabama Honors College (full scholarship), University of San Diego (Alcala $25000 scholarship), UCSB Honors College and now UCLA. Still waiting for Duke, Vanderbilt, USC, and Harvard. Rejected from Stanford SCEA and UNC Chapel Hill EA. I’ll probably go to Alabama though, because affording UCLA is a stretch and I really love Alabama!! Still exciting to get in and I’ll definitely go to bruin day to further explore my options!

Reflection
Strengths: ELC, SAT, EC’s, Essays
Weaknesses: GPA
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: ELC, SAT, EC’s, Essays; I received a supplement from UCI that explained the personal circumstances that led to a lower GPA
General Comments:
I want to congratulate everyone who was accepted to UCI!!! For all of you that were rejected, you will end up where you are supposed to be. I am happy this decision because Irvine has a good psychology psychology program and a top medical center to do research at. Also, received the same supplement from UCI that I did from UCLA, and that gives me some hope with the latter. Good luck to everyone in the rest of this process
