UCLA or Berkeley (Philosophy and future MBA student)

I know this topic has come up a hundred times because I’ve read around 100 threads on it already, but I still can’t decide.

My situation:
-Will save $20k going to UCLA
-Want to get an MBA
-Doing undergrad in Philosophy

I know Berkeley is much more oriented toward business but I’m doing Philosophy for my undergrad. Is there any benefit to me as a Philosophy student planning to do grad school in business to go to Berkeley over UCLA, given I’ll save $20k at UCLA? My end goal is to get into the best business school possible after undergrad, which means I will also be applying to the ivy leagues.

dude just go to UCLA n save that 20k!!! There is honestly slight difference between those two! Just get good grades n good work experience so you could go to a good Grad program. BTW why philo if you wanna get an MBA?

There are a few reasons I chose Philosophy.

-One of the best majors to prepare you for GMAT
-Differentiates me from other applicants
-Helped me leave CC quickly
-I’m interested in it.

well you know best! good luck. I would choose LA if i knew i was going to save 20k.

Go to UCLA.

Also, majoring in Philosophy will not prepare you for the GMAT - Philosophy majors just happen to score well on it, which may be due to any number of reasons. Majoring in Philosophy will not cause you to have a higher GMAT score - it’s not a causal thing.

If you’re very interested in philosophy, then by all means, study it - but you need to keep a high GPA, and philosophy is rather difficult at both Cal and UCLA.

goldencub that’s like saying majoring in math won’t prepare you for the quantitative part of the GMAT. Of course it will. Majoring in philosophy helps greatly in preparing you for both the verbal part of the GMAT (which involves reading comprehension and critical thinking) and the analytical writing assessment. Reading comprehension, critical thinking, and analytical writing are the essential pillars of our major.
