I was accepted to Cal and UCLA as a transfer student (Economics major). I like both schools and therefore I do not know what to choose. And I do not want to regret it in the future. One difference is that the requirements to declare Econ major at UCLA seem to be easier and more doable. Does anyone have any comments?
Go to the school you like more.
Don’t worry about prestige or any of that. If you’re already stressing about declaring at Berkeley go to UCLA and do the program you think is more doable. A lot of transfers I knew who went to berk werent able to meet the cutoff.
Those are two very different colleges in terms of vibe and surroundings. They are both equal in academic weight. Pick the campus you most enjoy and can picture yourself being at.
I’ve visited UCLA but never CAL. UCLA is an hr away from me while CAL is around 5-6 hours. I love Norcal and the Bay area but having never seen Cal for myself it’s difficult choosing. Also, I’m scared act grade deflation there and the competition
Well Cal is definitely urban, which some people like, others not so much. And it can be competitive. Keep in mind with fall likely hybrid but still open to anything, being closer to home may be a factor to consider.
@Ohm888 would you say it is hard to do well at Cal GPA-wise, while at the same time pursuing personal/career-related interests? For example, a big thing for me is Cal is next to a tech hub but while I am attending I want to develop projects and possibly collaborate with others to build stuff. Is that a reasonable thing to assume that would be possible? I’m unsure after reading 80-hour workweek articles lol.
Berkeley has an incubator called Skydeck that does just that.
