So I am currently choosing between UCLA and Santa Clara. I was admitted to the honors program at scu and it would be about a third of the cost of la. I really like the surroundings of la, but I am also worried about the budget issues the uc system is facing
. If anyone can give me some insight or thoughts, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

As a UC student, I would like to assure you that your budget concerns are unfounded in any ways other than in the aspect of increasing tuition.

Still, Santa Clara University’s offer to you is quite favorable and I would put it to deep consideration.

Good problem to have, but I can’t help you.I think I’d pick UCLA, ecause it seems harrder to come by. OTOH,so does SCU if it’s at THAT price!

What do you intend to study?

Sentiment: you are indeed correct, that was speculatory on my part, it just makes me a bit uneasy. Although, after attending bruin day today, I do feel better in the sense that from what the students said, if you are dilligent and take care to sign up for required classes first, you will be okay.

Shrink: I am planning to do BizEcon if I go to UCLA and double major in business management and marketing. To give a more accurate picture though, I want to go to law school afterwards, and I feel as though being in the middle of the pack at la would not be as good for grad school when compared to probably being at the upper part of the class at scu.

Your reasons for choosing UCLA would have to be so much greater in things beyond the cost factor which favors SCU considerably.

Yes, UCLA would be tougher grading, more competitive as you alluded.

That’s actually two strikes against UCLA.

If cost isn’t a factor for you, say if you live in Los Altos Hills or Atherton or somewhere upscale like these (don’t tell us), and you want to get away and love the social atmosphere of UCLA, then add one positive for the school and subtract the cost factor.

Add one positive for SCU and a strike against UCLA for the former being much smaller and more personal. But then again, having a big-time atmosphere and having the sociable aspects comes at a cost.

Mainly as become standard, visit both – I"m sure you visited SCU plenty enough, and see what school you feel most comfortable at or fires you up the most – if cost isn’t a big concern.

Again, if cost is a major concern, then SCU, easily.

There will always be a law school that accepts you even middle of trhe pack at UCLA, a decent one. Middle of the pack at UCLA is ~ 3.25-3.30 at graduation.

Cost isn’t something that will make or break either college for me, but scu being cheaper is certainly a benefit. I am sure that I would be ok either way, but I am trying to make the choice that will hopefully set me up for the best schools. Thank you to everyone for putting so much thought into your responses by the way.

Have you considered FIT? I know so many who transferred out of SCU because of it’s Christian centered theme around campus. A lot of people won’t get well with that sort of environment.
UCLA is much more liberal. I think it’s ultimately about fit.
