Okay so I am undecided on my major and will decide on it during summer.
I just recently got admitted to UCLA and UC Berkeley. However, Berkeley is only giving me Spring 2011* admission and not Fall 2010 admission because of overcrowding at the campus. UCLA is giving me Fall admission, so that's good. Berkeley says I can join a community college over the fall semester or join their Fall Program for Freshman (FPF, its an extension of UC Berkeley and is essentially a community college of 500-700 students just four blocks away from the main campus and some classes are actually on the campus) or I can do nothing for that first semester. However, I do not want to waste a whole semester. I need help choosing what university to attend.
Both universities have their ups and downs. Berkeley has better weather and higher academic prestige. LA has a better campus and better more expensive neighborhood compared to Berkeley's. I don't really know how much of a problem the Hobos at Berkeley are... I work best in a clean environment so LA is good for me, but I don't want to turn down Berkeley just because of this. I don't know... I'm in a dilemma.

So... just give me your opinions on what university you guys think I should attend. Anything will help. Thanks!

omg im totally in the same situation as u…got into the same deferred admission thing and got regular admission to UCLA gahhh
thers been so much debating going on at my house its *****ing crazy
ya id really appreciate any insight any1 has to this situation also

I know it totally sucks. I wish I had just gotten rejected by One of them. I think you should visit both campuses, that’s what I’m going to do. I’m visiting Berkeley this Tuesday March 30th and I’m going to check out the FPF location and everything and even submit my reservation for FPF w/ the $100 non-refundable fee. I still don’t know If I will be attending Cal, but $100 is a small fee to pay considering my entire future is at stake. Then, on Thursday, I’m going to visit UCLA campus. I recommend you do the same… I don’t know… I’m pretty ****ing confused myself

about the homeless people, they don’t bother anyone lol
They just live their life, sometimes they talk to people, wander the campus or something, but really they make no negative impact.
They are all also pretty nice.

Well, there are some questions you should check on. Like whether the Spring Enrollment will affect your graduation in time or is there any negative impact on your later study if you choose the Fall Program.

If the program doesn’t hurt much, I suggest you choose Berkely.

I’m in the same situation as both of you spring ucb and fall ucla :/

After hours of arduous research and talking to friends that go to both schools I can say that you honestly can’t go wrong. The academic differences may be a bit more Berkeley favored except for a few majors, but for someone that constantly has been changing their mind its negligible.

I’m just going to visit both campuses and see which one feels better. I’m going to cal on cal day and I’m planning on going to ucla some weekend and staying with my friend whose roommate goes home every weekend (yeah spending a lot more time in ucla with friends might alter my decision)

OP: Why do you say the weather is better at Berkeley?

Barty13-- why do you say UCLA is in a polluted area? It is surrounded by some of the most expensive homes in the US… Holmby Hills, Bel Air, Westwood, Brentwood … if that were true, I think we’d have heard about it!

Re: spring semester admittance: a neighbor started Berkely five years ago as a Spring admit, loved it, and graduated on time. I don’t think this is a factore at all.
