UCLA or UC Irvine?

I'm in a bit of a dilemma here. I was accepted to both UCLA and UC Irvine as a biology major and I can't quite choose between the two. I visited both campuses, and really enjoyed what each campus had to offer. UCI's facilities amazed me most because I could actually find the Biological Sciences building. I think I found the UCLA science facilities if there the buildings behind the UCLA store. UCLA seemed a little bit more tricky to get around just because its a big city, but then again UCLA seems to have way more presitage over UCI. My parents, well really my dad, never seemed to like UCLA and he never told me why after I asked. Just to be honest, I'm kind of an indecisive guy when it comes to big decisions like this and posting a thread to ask everyone probably won't help me decide either but its a worth a shot. Any Bruins or Anteaters out there? help me out please....

um are you crazy? UCLA hands down. No hesistation. Check out US News & Report’s top colleges and UCLA’s like top 25, while UCI is…well. down there.
UCLA’s way more complex than UCI, so i wouldn’t be suprised that you couldnt find the building.

Also you might want to consider posting in the correct section? This is for summer programs, not acceptances. Good luck choosing (:

UCLA for sure! A lot of people don’t like it because of the location (big city, etc.), but you’ll be on campus most of the time.
If you think about which school has a better program for what you’re studying and will most likely help you past college, and which school will offer you the most opportunities (research opportunities and such) then you would probably realize UCLA is the best choice  But ultimately it’s your choice and depends on what you look for in a college. Good luck!

Are you stupid? Assuming the aid is the same, It’s like me wondering whether I should go to Deer Mountain Community College or Harvard. Well, maybe not that extreme, but you get the point. Forget your Dad - he’ll only be basking in your success later. Just choose UCLA.

So i completely understand your predicament. I think everyone here is choosing UCLA for the prestige. UCLA is a household name, but its ranking it based on a general scale. The truth of the matter is that UCLA really isn’t the best in biology. UCI is also a very good school for biology majors. Of all the UCs, UCSD is actually probably the best school for biology. Most people just hear UCLA and they automatically just think, “but…its UCLA.” For biology, that is a tough call. I wouldn’t choose UCLA just because of its reputation. I would do some research on each of the biology programs.

pepperon1, I understand that, but surely u realize prestige matters. if u wanna go into, say, humanities and know that some university in Kansas is better than Harvards, would u go to Kansas?

it’s true that UCI’s bio program is nice but from an educational level both ucla and uci offer the same level. basically the students at ucla that u would be working with will be more academically talented (ucla is def harder to get into) but uci will have better lab materials and stuff because funding at uci is better right now.

good luck and hope this helps! I’m also typing on my iPhone so my bad about my typing :)
