UCLA or UCSD?

I’ve narrowed my college choices down to these two, but I’m having a hard time deciding. I love UCLA’s campus and location and also their prestige, but UCSD is $1,200 cheaper with work study. Without work study UCLA is just a smidge cheaper. I’m currently undecided on my major but have interests in environmental science and astronomy. Both colleges offer majors for those interests. My problem is whether I should go where it’s cheapest or where I’m more comfortable. Thanks for any help.

How do you know how comfortable you will be at either university? If you know this for certain, then I wouldn’t let 1000-2000$ decide where you should go to college.

You can get a job without work study. Both of my kids did and we never file for FAFSA either. Go to UCLA if that is what you want.

Both are really good schools, almost comparable now. For me $1,200 wouldn’t be a game changer. UCLA is the bigger name, at least in terms of national recognition. Also, regarding work study, I don’t know what you plan to major in, but I wouldn’t necessarily assume you will need it or even want to do it once you get in to your courseload. Down the road, you can always apply for a grant or scholarship.

If you want a good social life and a football team, pick UCLA. If you want to mostly study, pick SD.
