I’m fortunate enough to be accepted at both these schools.
I was accepted for CS at UCLA, but not at UIUC, where I was accepted to Engineering Physics instead.
I’m not sure if Engineering Physics is right for me, and Computer Science seems more appealing.
Is transferring inside UIUC something I should consider?
I’m OOS at both schools, but I’ve received a 10k/yr scholarship at UCLA, so both schools are almost the same (50k/yr) financially.
I need help with my decision. Thank you.
(I decided not to deposit at Case Western, because I don’t think it’s a fit for me, despite the significantly lesser cost.)
They’re both quite good but UCLA has a slight rep edge, for whatever that’s worth. Both have many strong programs.
I think if they are the same price, you should decide based on where you’d rather be:
- The four Midwest seasons vs. the California sunshine
- The posh urban/suburban setting of UCLA vs. the rural/suburban feel of Urbana-Champaign. For the big city fun and culture, are you willing to travel to Chicago or St. Louis?
- Party/social atmosphere
- Graduation requirements, class sizes, research opportunities -- academic fit
- Dorms and food -- try to find out which school's are better
- Also try to find out how difficult it is to change your major to CS at Illinois.
Both are good. Good luck!
Changing into the CS major is very competitive at UIUC. Just for that reason, I would go with UCLA.
Alright, I’ve decided to enroll at UCLA, thanks for the help!
