I’m planning on arriving by 10 am… I searched the threads earlier today and this is some of the information I found (sorry for not citing the original sources!) –

the only important parts of the day for me:

7:30 am check in:
get free breakfast, true bruin backpack, pen, true bruin pin, a book called “Zeitoun” that apparently everyone has to read, and folders with useful info

7:30 - 8:30:
get your bruincard if you haven’t already

8:30 - 10:30:
pointless introductions, but go to these if you must

11-12:
meet your student adviser for lunch who will answer any questions and also give you your “degree in progress report,” this is very helpful and has A LOT of information about your current progress towards graduating and fulfilling your major requirements, you’re probably thinking “wait i haven’t even started at ucla yet, so how can they have so much info about me?”

1:30 meet with head advisers from your major department and ask them questions about your major

…everything from 2:30-7:50 PM is pretty pointless imo because it’s been stressed on so much they’ll be touched on again throughout the quarter (honors program, fin aid, research opportunities, study skills, etc), a lot of people used this time to go to computer labs around the dorms and plan out their classes which you’ll sign up for at 8:00 sharp in your student advisers dorm room, after which you’ll just go home

*I recommend
- having your classes planned out before your orientation WITH BACKUPS because you WILL NOT get your first choice
- ask as many questions as you can
- keep in touch with your student adviser
- have him/her show you the various resources such as computer labs, free printing, etc around campus while you’re walking from orientation to orientation
- get your free dinner pass around 5pm, the dorm food is soooo goood!
