ucla parking permit - question

Hi,

I'm transferring in the fall 08' and living in the Residential Halls. I need a parking permit because my dad is 60 years old, a vietnam war veteran, and legally disabled. Neither of my parents speak english and I'm in the oldest son. There will be many times I need to drive home. I can get documentation to prove this.

So I get that I need to submit an application and then appeal, because I'm not working an off campus job.

However, on the application site at:
UCLA Online Student Parking Application
When I try to submit an application it says that I need to provide an off-campus job and doesn't let me submit the application without completing that field. What should I do? I'll try calling them later.

Thank you

well i believe u dont turn in the app until the 25th of next month...

You need to go and apply in person.

However, do not expect to get parking. You can try ebay and craigslist to see if anyone is selling or on street parking.

Yeah, I don't think they are accepting applications already, but you can always try by calling or going in person.

Do people who receive parking permits get guaranteed parking though?

KitKat- that made me laugh. Guaranteed parking.....

I personally have never had my lot feel "oversold" but during "peak" class hours if you are late you will have to drive around the lot a little bit or park at the very top/end of the lot. Also it depends on your lot. For example i used lot 3 but have parked in 4 and 5 , out of those 3 is always the easiest but also the largest.

You can encounter this weird timeframe where if you ran a bit late, most people for rush hour classes already parked, yet the people for the previous set of classes may not have left yet, so you get this like 15 min + time frame of maybe having to look for parking and then you inadvertendly end up being late to your class, versus if you just showed up earlier to begin with you would be fine. But, this only happened like twice to me and i usually tried to get to class 20-30 min b4 it starts (i hate feeling rushed)

Also, if you can fill out the application online then the application period IS open. If the period is not open then you do not get to see an application. Yesterday i was able to access the actual application, so i suggest you all go fill it out now if you are interested b/c if you miss the deadline you get a big fat nothing.

The OP needs to go in, in person because as an oncampus student they do not appear to be offering parking unless you have an off campus job.

Okay thanks for the response. Guess I'll be taking a trip to LA once I give them a call.
