Hi guys! I was recently accepted into UCLA and Carnegie. I was wondering which school would provide a better business education and a better college experience. Thanks!
Bump?
@yoyohi they are both great places, what do you want to do with the degree? UCLA has the edge in weather, CMU is stronger on the analytical side, etc. Also, where do you want to work when you graduate - UCLA would get props if you wanted to settle on the west coast, for instance.
@inn0v8r im interested in i-banking, and i have a side interest in entrepreneurship.
@yoyohi can you give more detail though? Like what do you will bring to the table for an i-banking position? Do you enjoy the quant side of a problem more, or the people side, or both? The more you can say, the better.
There is the issue that you would probably be getting an Economics or Business Economics degree from UCLA, versus a degree from the Tepper school from CMU. CMU is a bit more focused for you, although Econ is a solid flexible degree too.
Tepper is world class on the analytics side, and quite good on some of the more quanty parts of things like Finance. Geographically you would have a recruiting advantage for east coast banks relative to UCLA. But if you are not from the east coast, you might find the winters there pretty tough.
In terms of surrounding city, Pittsburgh is alright, but Westwood/LA is a whole other level of nice. (Though in fairness, more hectic. For instance, LA traffic has gotten so bad…) So if that is important to you, UCLA kills on that front.
