UCLA Regents Scholarship

:/ if we don't get the regents letter now, does that mean they probably won't mention it in late march? :(

duh, the due date for regent app is today

hm...when I sent in my application for it, I didn't get any form of receipt. The page just reloaded and showed the application page with all blank boxes. Is this normal?

^ The same thing happened to me, so I called the number listed on the website. The lady who answered said that the session times out after 30ish minutes. If your app went through, you should have been taken to a confirmation page where you could print out your app.

same here. I just resent the application. The site apparently times out.

It appears as if they are having problems. I submitted mine at around 4:00 PM (PST) and I just got brought back to the scholarship application form.
...so I decided to look here to see if the same had happened to anyone else. I then just tried to resubmit the application, and the same thing happened. Ok, so I arbitrarily decided to check my email and I see

Dear Student,

We have received your letter of Recommendation via fax for the Regents Scholarship application process.

However, we have not received your on-line application.

So, I'm thinking, "Oh crap, I wrote those potentially-worth-$22,000 essays for nothing?"

Well, I guess today's my lucky day because the email continues:

[quote]
We will extend the deadline until Tuesday, February 20th. Please take the time to submit your application before 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

The on-line web address is as follows:
<a href="https://www.fao.ucla.edu/Regents_App/regents_application_freshmen.aspx%5B/url%5D">https://www.fao.ucla.edu/Regents_App/regents_application_freshmen.aspx</a></p>

Please NOTE: The web site is time sensitive. Write your essay on WORD and then log on to the application and copy and paste your essay then submit. Hit the confirm button to make sure we receive the application. If you get a blank sheet, it means the application did not go through. Keep trying until you receive a confirmation page.

That last sentence makes it seems as if the system has been having trouble. Firefox 2 shouldn't be the problem, but I'll try it with IE7.

By the way, it's not a server time-out. If the server timed out, it has a really crappy time-out threshold in the milliseconds.

Hmm it's interesting since I also got an email (though a few days ago...)

Dear Student,

We have received your letter of Recommendation via fax for the Regents Scholarship application process. However, we have not received your on-line application, as of today. Please take a few minutes to submit the on-line application before Friday, February 16th, if you are still interested.

So I guess they really want you to apply... so when they still haven't received your app by today, they extend the deadline for you.

@prometheus: I received that email twice, actually. The text was slightly different between the two, but both stressed that the deadline was February 16th at 5:00 PM sharp, no exceptions. I diagnosed the error I was having and it was because I was using a customized browser to access the page, although if the page had been well-coded the problem could have been avoided in the first case. At any rate, I've notified them of the issue.

I see. Sometimes Firefox, if you are using Adblock, automatically blocks all javascript so it's probably safer to disable that before filling out these kind of forms.

However, SQL, what did you mean by Feb. 20 deadline extention then? Can you send it in later?

It had nothing to do with Adblock since the JavaScript form verification worked. I had my cookie settings set to block cookies from unverified domains so it couldn't accept the session cookie that the server was wanting to set. I was a bit confused because the page uses a simple HTML form and shouldn't require sessions at all, but then again, the page is just a swamp of code from FrontPage. Look at these snippets:

-----------

Contact Information

Phone Inquiries:

...and it goes on and on like that.

About the deadline: I was able to submit it successfully after the 5:00 PM deadline so I'm assuming that it's ok to submit it until the 20th, according to the e-mail.

did anyone submit a rec letter but u still got the email anyways?
i had my teacher fax it over a week ago and yet I still got that email saying it's missing!
