I just got a letter from UCLA saying i have been selected to compete for UCLA Regents Scholarship. Does this mean i got accepted to UCLA?

I don't know for sure, but I would be EXTREMELY surprised if you got rejected.

yes, it generally does mean you got accepted. good job and if you get regeants, congratulations, full ride aHAha.

damn! : ( i didnt get one..

wait can i do both the Regent one and the Alumni one for UCLA?

I think being selected to COMPETE and being accepted are independent .. I would say that if you were chosen to RECEIVE one, that you would be admitted. http://www.fao.ucla.edu/uclascholarships/regents.html

i remeber reading last year when i was in the waiting game that a handful of people or so that were invited to compete were later on rejected.

well thats odd; since most people are not even given invitations at all

and Boelter- the letter says that you will be notified of the award when you get your admission

I also got the UCLA Regents Scholarship letter today. According to the website listed in the letter, only the top 1.5% of the entering freshmen is invited -- but then it goes on to say 1000 entering freshmen are invited to compete each year. I think all of the invitees already have been admitted to UCLA. Let's hope this is the case.

Don't think of the invitation as an absolute admission, but instead as a very very good sign that you are almost certainly going to be admitted.

As far as I know, you can compete for both the Regents and Alumni scholarships, but that may have changed from when I was there...

I'd be extremely (highlight/bold/underline/star) suprised as well if you end up getting rejected, although I do remember reading I think one or two post a while ago of people who did (which I'm still very skeptical about).

You can still compete for both scholarships, but the regents requires an invitation and an invitation actually has significance to it, whereas anyone can apply for the Alumni scholarship, and their email invitation carries no significance (I emailed them awhile back, and unless they changed their policy from two years ago, that emailing list still has no meaning behind it).

well i wish all people who received the regent invitation a best of luck. better start on those two essays.
Remember due date: feb 16

I got the letter today too. it says to get a rec from someone who can address your "academic abilities and personal attributes." Should I ask my teacher to focus her letter more on personality? Since all there is to say about academics is pretty much on the application due in November.

That's a good idea, considering that all other Regent-eligible people will probably have about the same qualifications. Ask her for any particular anecdotes, special qualities, experiences, etc.

The majority of people I know who got invited last year, including myself, got in, but I do know of at least one person who got invited but was later rejected, so it definitely does happen.

i'm ~99% sure youve been accepted. nice job

I got the letter too... didn't know there were essays associated with it (thanks for pointing that out). I suppose I may as well go for it.

Congratulations.

I GOT THE REGENTS LETTER!!!!

They MUST have made a mistake. I have average stats and such... :(

So does this mean I'm basically in UCLA? And how competitive is it to get the regent scholarship? I read on the Berkeley forum that about 60% of invites actually get the scholarship. Is this the case for UCLA?

Congrats to all who got the letter! BTW, my brother, who has higher stats than me, did NOT get the letter. Are they still in the process of mailing them, or did they just fluke on me?

what is your stats? and post your brothers so we can compare.
