UCLA Summer Course for High School Student

I'm a 10th grader in high school and want to take a summer course at UCLA this summer, such as Psych 1 or Sociology 1.

I've heard the price for summer classes at UCLA is very expensive. But how expensive exactly? How much do you think it would cost me to take a Psych 1 class this summer?

Also, I was reading on UCLA's website that they offer full and partial scholarships to limited high school students in the state. Does anyone know if many students actually are granted these scholarships? Or do too many students apply for them, thus decreasing my chances of getting one? Do you know how much partial scholarships usually are? In the hundreds? Thousands? I have no idea, so help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

And does anyone know how exactly to apply for these scholarships? What steps do I have to take?
Thank you.

summer.ucla.edu

its like some fees plus 220 or so per unit

I know it has a $150 nonrefundable fee for registering and holding you a seat in the class you apply for. Plus $200-$300 per unit I’m guessing. And Psych 1 is 3 units. So we’re looking at about $900? Does this look about right?

That’s really expensive.

I’ve been trying to sign up for summer courses in community colleges around LA, but most of them allow high school students to register weeks after students who attend the college, so all the classes will probably be full by the time high school students sign up. Plus, budget cuts are probably going to eliminate a bunch of courses.

Anyone have any suggestions on how/where I can sign up for a community college course such as Psych 1 or Sociology 1 over the summer for a cheap price (meaning not nearly as expen$ive as UCLA)?

Thank you.

If i remember correctly community college classes were free for high school students. I took like 5 cc classes , and the late sign up isn’t a big deal, just get on the wight list, a lot of people drop within the first week. good luck

I think it actually comes to $1226 if you’re a visitor taking a 3 unit class. If you qualify, you can get FA that will take a few hundred dollars off. I know nothing about the scholarship program.

If you follow the directions on the website, you can take a class at SMC[/url">http://www.smc.edu/apps/pub.asp?Q=10&B=1"]SMC for ~$20 (up to 11 units I think), assuming there are classes available.

How about online AP courses? [National University Virtual High School](http://www.nuvhs.org/) has AP courses under $400 each.
