Does anyone know whether I can get financial aid if I take only 4 units during this summer at UCLA? I am a newly admitted transfer student.

Nope, i was told it only applies for the fall through spring. The only way you can go for the summer is either pay outta pocket, have an outside loan, or win a scholarship.

I think you can but it won’t be in the form of government aid(grants/subsidized and unsubsidized loans).
I know for sure you can if you are enrolled full time at a minimum of 12 units.

I don’t want to kill myself taking 12 units. I will ask them tomo.

It’s covered pretty extensively in their summer guide.

Summer Guide: http://www.fao.ucla.edu/Publications/2011-2012/Summer_Guide.pdf

In grants, there is the Pell and University Grant depending on how many units you’re intending to take. [TinyGrab - Simple. Screenshot. Sharing.](http://grab.by/agBH)

I applied for summer aid back in the end of April, I was recently given an eFAN with 1k in University Grants and 3k in loans.

i am taking 8 units over the summer. the total cost of tuition is $2,008 (ish) and I recieved $1,200 in grants, a $500 federal perkins loan, and an unsubsidized loan that covers the rest.

I’m taking 12 units. 2 classes in session A and 1 in session C. I owe roughly $3,000 but received an eFan of roughly $5,000 in grants. I did not take any loans.

where did you guys find your eFan? i checked my ucla email and i didn’t get an email, and its not on myfao either. i also applied end of april.

i recieved an eFan via email about 2 weeks ago. i applied May 6th.

Has anyone actually received their summer aid yet? UCLA’s begun sending me letters asking that I pay for my summer classes but I haven’t actually received my aid yet. What’s the deal?

i got those letters also. the $ isnt due until june 19th and i am assuming the loans with come in before that.

Hey LizfromHollywood: I see that you applied past the priority registration for the summer session. I applied later as well, but I am not sure if I will qualify for enough in loans to afford summer school as well as living expenses. Did you get more than what the actually tuition will cost (i.e. enough to live on as well)?

well they offered me $1,200 in free money, $500 in a federal perkins loan, $1,400 in an unsubsidied loan, and (approx) $3,000 in the form of a private loan. the tuition for 8 units is about $2,000, and they offered be $6,000 ish.

I did not accept the private loan, but i took the rest. so i will have some extra for living expenses and books.

Wow, and you did in fact apply past the priority date for financial aid? I just want to be sure. This sounds crazy but I’m in a financial pickle (can’t find a job) and if I can get enough financial aid to cover the tuition and parking as well as living expenses, my life will be exponentially better.

yes i didn’t even know about summer financial aid until after the priority date.

anyone recieved their summer financial aid yet?

I haven’t. You?

I have a question about the $150 deposit. I am a financial aid student and obviously I don’t have the money yet to put in a deposit. If I enroll, do they still make us pay, or does it just get taken care of when we receive our money. I am enrolling in Session C, so I won’t get my money for quite a while.

Second, do we have to be enrolled in classes to recieve an eFan? I haven’t chosen my classes yet but I have applied for aid, and I don’t want it to affect my financial aid status. I figured it wouldn’t matter since we received financial aid for the regular school year without being enrolled, but on the other hand we are expected to be full time.

Sorry about the rambly-ness, I have been writing essays for hours.

^what $150 deposit? they $150 thing is only if you enroll and then drop out of every class you signed up for.

so summer financial aid has covered our charges, but when does the extra get sent to us?

arg.

Financial aid disbursements come out tomorrow, latest by Thursday.

And there is no $150 deposit.
