UCLA Supplemental Duolingo English Test

Searching last year’s threads and other threads before that ,I found that 50% of people who get this email get admitted , regardless of whether they gave the exam.

50% chance I get in then lol

To those who received the Duolingo email from UCLA, where are you all from and where do you study?

This post from the blog Ask Ms Sun might explain a bit:
“A portion of international applicants (primarily those from China and some from other Asian countries) have received a request from UCLA for an English assessment, in addition to the submitted TOEFL score. This is not a joke or a mistake (as some seems to have come to believe). This is an independent assessment most likely targeting Asian students due to the pervasive cheating from the region.”

I am a Hong Kong citizen and my high school is in Shanghai, China. I received a 118 in TOEFL and am predicted a 7 in IB English A HL, so I was honestly very confused when I got the email from UCLA.

Alternatively, my college counsellor says this might also be a tactic from UCLA to see how interested a student really is to attend UCLA.

Hope this helps.

(UCLA isn’t my top choice university and I didn’t take the test.)

@victoriaaaaa53 decisions are released a few hours from now anyway.

@TunisianToUSA I didn’t know until I woke up this morning! I was accepted~ :smiley:

I got the Duolingo email, but decided not to take the test. I woke up this morning being in the waitlist. Not bad

I got accepted and did the Duolingo Test. But my essays and ECs were great, had 1920 SAT(avg) and a great GPA(dont know my UCGpa)

I was accepted without the Duolingo test, 1520 SAT awesome GPA for Poland, great ECs and IMO awesome essays. Also 116 on the TOEFL, which made me not take the test even more.

accepted without this
