I’m an international student and I just got this request to take the Duolingo English Test. Has anyone else received this request yet?
Yes I received this today. I was surprised since I already submitted a TOEFL score. Are you gonna take the test ?
I received it just now as well, despite having sent my TOEFL score
I got it like five minutes ago. Wierd. I guess it’s their first year to do this cuz I never heard it before. Anyone is gonna take that test?
I have received it today as well. I had a 99 in my TOEFL… Do not know what to do… It is 49$…
I know other schools use Duolingo for applicants whose TOEFLs don’t meet the minimum. I have a 110 TOEFL. What do they want from this extra test?
@mountainviewer What are your sub scores? Did you also get the request?
I’ve also received that just now. I got a 107 in TOEFL. I think that’s enough. Are they just trying to make more money?
I received an email too. I got 109 in TOEFL and I sent it to UCLA. I’m kinda confused right now. Are they asking for the test because my TOEFL score isn’t high enough? BTW, I’ve never heard of this test before.
110+TOEFL, got the email.
Actually I sent the TOEFL to Berkeley, but I am sure they said they would share the score with other UC colleges.
Even I got it a few minutes ago. I got 114 on the TOEFL and I also sent them my SAT II English Literature score, which was 760. I honestly can’t see how this could possibly help them evaluate my application. It just feels like they’re trying to make money off us or something I dunno
@EmilyMo The most confusing part is just this sentence "Please note that this additional English assessment is being requested on an individual basis and not all applicants will be asked to provide additional information. " Do you think 110+ is still not enough?
I hope this is not meant to make money (I know UC’s have very delicate financial situations), but who knows… It is very surprising to see people with 100+ TOEFLs getting this email…
109 TOEFL, got the email. I don’t think it’s because our scores aren’t high enough. UCLA’s website says - “A competitive score is above 100 (with sub-scores above 22)”
I received a 116 in my TOEFL and I still got the request. For people above 100 - are you giving the test? Because it seems kinda redundant.
@spacedeity I’m totally confused. I think it’s partly bc I got biased subscores (two 30s, two 26s). I decide not to take it.
Tbh, I really don’t wanna spend 50 bucks on that test…
Exactly, I would be pleased to take the test if it were free, but not for 49$
I don’t think I’m going to. I just checked their website and like @aj1228 said, it says that a competitive score is over 100. That pretty much convinced me it’s just a money making gimmick.
