UCLA e-mailed me

Hey guys, I got an e-mail from UCLA, kind of like the few transfer students who had their unofficial transcripts requested but for me, it was really different. UCLA asked me where I attended the first years of high school and what the primary language of instruction was. I attended the high school I graduated from for my last year and a half of the four years of high school. I went to 2 different high schools before. They were all in the United States, in California so the primary language was English.
I submitted my response, but any idea why UCLA would send me an e-mail about this? Could this be good news for me? I know that transfer decisions are probably coming out this Friday so all of us who applied will know very soon.

Did you list all the high schools in your application?

They seem to want to verify language of instruction, perhaps for LOTE?

@lindyk8 In the UC application, it only asked for the last high school attended where you received your high school diploma. There was nothing in the application where I could have added all the high schools.
What is LOTE? I never heard of that. I was born in the United States too.

You have been a great help to not just me but everyone on the UC Transfer forum, lindy. Thank you very much!

Thx for the kind words, @chorean. You’re supposed to list every high school, unless I’ve lost my mind (which maybe I have).

LOTE means Language other than English. It’s one of those one million UC acronyms. Sorry.

If you can send a further update you might do that, noting you just found out from someone you were supposed to list all HS so it doesn’t look like evasion.

And I don’t want to freak you out with the word evasion, because the fact that you didn’t make any attempt to address it when you sent the update pretty much shows you were not aware of any problem.

Yeah, you definitely list all HS’s in the application. What is your major? Maybe the question was related to it?

But yes, you should really update all the HS’s attended, that could be a problem and the reason for the question.

Thank you again, lindy and fullload!
Ok, I understand. That’s so weird that there was no place in the UC application to state all the high schools I attended.
I think I fixed the problem because I uploaded a copy of my high school transcript which shows all the high schools I attended with the answer I submitted.
The major I applied with is Korean. Maybe that could be a reason too?

If they are to release decisions on 17th, I would have thought they already have their three piles done (Admitted, waitlisted and rejected).
Strange that they are asking such questions 5 days before the decision date. Or am I losing it:)

@HumbleTeen Oh I received the e-mail from UCLA in the end of March which is I guess still kind of late maybe.

@chorean, actually there is a button somewhere that says something like add another school. As I do always err on the side of caution even if it’s overkill (an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure), I would still email them. They save every correspondence within the application so everyone can see it.

It says all over the place to list all schools and not doing so could jeopardize your admission. While high school is probably not as do or die as forgetting colleges, the omission is still against what they state.

Let’s say you didn’t list high school and you updated, as you did. Probably 90% it won’t matter. (I’m guessing, how do I know?)

However, you send a message saying you just found out on College Confidential you were supposed to list all, you thought just graduation, it suddenly won’t matter 100%, and everyone will see it.

@lindyk8 Are you sure that there is a place where you can add another school for high school? If I remember correctly there weren’t any places for submitting additional high schools other than your last high school attended. In fact, the section is entitled Last High School Attended not High School(s) Attended. I might be wrong though.

Edited: I need to hold my horses. I just went to look at my UC application and indeed only my last HS was listed. But I’m almost positive I had to give them all of the HS’s I attended. With that said, I’ve had to do so many applications to so many different schools, I could be mixing up my applications.

Lol, I’m of no help.

I do think Korean as a major would require a little more insight into the languages you studied in HS, so that’s probably what happened here. Just a guess.

Just FYI I have attended two high schools and I just listed my last high school in the application and talked about my other high school in the additional comments section.

@fullload Out of curiosity, do you have multiple high schools in the last high school attended section?

Maybe I made a mistake…

Obviously, then, that does not necessitate a further email. Crisis averted.

Well, I’m staring at it right now and there is only one “last HS attended” section visible. But I swear I entered in all my HS’s. I had to call all my HS’s to get dates, it was a total hassle for me that’s why I remember doing it so well.

But I’m old and my memory isn’t so good, so it could have been for another private or CSU application.

Ok, I just found this on UCI site under Common Application Errors:

“Applicants fail to list ALL schools attended since 9th grade: Even schools outside the USA and even schools where course work may have not been transferable or completed must be included on the School section. This is important information for evaluation purposes and failure to list all schools could result in delay of the admission process and/or cancellation.”

Either way, it probably doesn’t warrant an email.

@lindyk8 I am sure that only applies to freshman applicants as I already have been accepted to UCI

You’re right @hemingwayyyyy, I just found it. Last high school attended for transfers!

Thank you, everyone! Then I should be fine until decisions are released!
Oh I should have said this in the beginning but UCLA asked me in what country I was in high school in the beginning. So UCLA was not really asking which high school but in what country. Would that mean anything too?
