I plan on applying TAP to UCLA in Fall of 2014. I won't have my required 15 units of honor completed until spring 2015. Will UCLA still consider me as a TAP student?

I could technically say I'm going to be TAP but not actually complete my honors program by dropping classes or something in spring?

Hmm, well I will “complete” my last 3 honors units this Spring (I applied for Fall 2014), having completed 12 honors units already. Basically, I had to fill out some forms and state that my last honors class was in progress. Apparently, every CC has a list with all of their potential UCLA TAP applicants, so if you fill out the proper forms and meet the right counselors your name will be on that list. So if you can manage to convince the counselors to get your name on that list you’re in (have some completed honors courses of course). This year, the deadline to send that list was March 7. A transfer counselor told me that “if we don’t contact you, you’re fine”, so I guess I got TAP certified.

At SMC (Santa Monica College) the Scholars Program wants 15 units to be completed the semester your apply. So when I apply Fall 2014 for Fall 2015, I need to have 15 units complete/in progress. I do not believe SMC’s TAP program accepts units completed in the spring for certification.

luckie1367 and I go to the same community college and he’s right.

Although SMC TAP does allow spring units for certification if you have a high GPA, though. In any case, OP, UCLA doesn’t decide whether they’ll accept you as a TAP student. It’s up to your community college to determine if you can complete honors units in the spring for TAP certification. UCLA will consider you a TAP-certified student if your community college is willing to certify you.

UCLA TAP is an honors program offered at many community colleges that is open to all who are eligible. Typically, 70~90%(It varies by community college) of all UCLA TAP students are admitted. UCB TAP is an invite-only program that is intended to assist minorities and those of low socioeconomic status get into UC Berkeley. One statistic I read from a member of the program(So take it with a grain of salt) stated that about 80% of all UCB TAP students are admitted.

Any idea if TAP can be joined in the sophomore year of CC? I have a 3.8 at CC and didn’t know until just now we had an honors transfer program for UC. Thanks. Also, what do they mean by honors classes? I dont see anything labeled honors in the current CC schedule (at WLAC).
