Hi, I was wondering if there was a way to get from UCLA to UCSD, or vice-versa, without a car.

And approximately how long would it take?

Not sure about time, but you can bus it to union station or Van Nuys and take Amtrak down there.

and after arriving in san diego via amtrak, you’d still need to take a few buses to get to UCSD

I took the bus to union station and then the train down to SD. Then more buses to ucsd. It took 7 hours!! Never doing that again. You can drive it in 1 hour 45min.

7 HOURS?! WTH. What part of the trip took so long?

San Diego public transit isn’t really as widely used as LA’s (SD’s population is also huge, but way less dense). Not too many ultra-convenient bus/trolley/train routes available.

From LA to union station, I had to take two buses. That took ~2 hours
The wait at union station was about half an hour
the train ride was 3 hours
the bus from SD to ucsd was another hour or so.
When I got to ucsd, I was so dead haha
