I was accepted to UCLA today as a Russian Studies major. However, my intended major was Global Studies. What are my chances of changing majors once I have applied to UCLA? I have contacted the Global Studies department asking them questions about changing majors once Im in. It has been my dream since I was 12 years old to go to UCLA and I dont want to go in as a Russian Studies major because that degree will get me no where. Thanks!

Umm global studies won’t really get you anywhere either… why did you apply as russian studies? anyway, chances are slim and depend of you finishing the pre-reqs and its fully up to the dean of the global studies dept.

they wont let you. they make a strong point on the provisional acceptance that they dont allow transfers to change majors. However, I have heard its still possible to transfer into non-impacted majors once you have completed their prereqs with a 3.0 or something

I applied as a Global Studies major in the first place, I have all my prereqs done already for that major. Is it true that you have a change to change majors within the college?

You can change to non-impacted majors.

So you were already declined for it and given your second choice major? Sorry, sounds like it won’t be happening.

^^^ Rushdelts I think you’re right on this.

GS majors must apply by the end of Fall, Junior Year. Basically you’re already either in or not.

After relooking over the information in the thread, don’t think you’ll be able to change. Because you already have all the pre-major reqs done and you were denied for admission to the major. So what else could you do to get admitted right? It’s not like you can send in the same application twice.

Have you looked at the Global Studies minor though? It’s pretty easy to pick up. I’ve thought about getting it before, but wasn’t interested enough to follow up.

My observation is that MOST transfer students at UCLA end up double majoring. If you are interested in another major, I would recommend coming in as a Russian Studies major, completing the course work and double majoring in Global Studies. In general, it seems like UCLA really frowns upon switching majors, but not double majoring. Good luck.
