I’m a current California Community College student planning on applying to UCLA this upcoming fall. Majoring in Business Economics, I only have 2 out of the several required courses for major admission due to my CC not offering courses every semester, as well as requiring multiple prerequisites that halted my chances of finishing major prereqs sooner. My question is even if I complete all the major prereqs by the end of the spring semester prior to my transfer, will I be at a major disadvantage? I’ve read online from multiple people stating they got rejected from the school because they didn’t have their prereqs completed prior to the application submission, which kind of scares me; I’ve understood it common in the UC system to have your major prereqs completed prior to transfer, but I’m unsure if UCLA wants it to be taken a step further and have them all completed prior to just applying to the school. Any help would be appreciated.
Forgot to add that my CC doesn’t offer one of the required Econ course prereqs at all, so I don’t know how I’m standing with even getting accepted currently.
Dave I hoping there is some leeway for you. I concur with what you have read online and taking it one step further, I have heard that the inability for you to take a class at your community college is not a viable excuse. The way I understand the prereq requirements is that if there is another college you can attend to fulfill the prereqs, you must seek that opportunity; even if you have to attend multiple schools during the same term. The only exception I have heard of is if the other college is an unreasonable distance to travel, then you document why you did not complete all the prereqs in your application. Good luck.
For some majors yes, you are at a major disadvantage. Unfortunately, biz econ is one of those majors. It was THE most applied to major last year, and they specifically state that major prereq completion by fall is HIGHLY encouraged. In particular, you wanna finish the math requirement before fall, is that at least done, or will you be able to have it done by fall? Either way, I’ve seen numerous students on this forum with 4.0s get rejected to UCLA for biz econ due to leaving prereq(s) for spring.
Regardless, try to get as much as you can done by fall, and even if you can’t get all prereqs done, leave what’s remaining for spring and apply anyways. It is not gonna be an auto-reject unless you’re gonna be missing prereqs even w/ the spring semester. And I hope I can give you some hope b/c I applied for psychology this most recent cycle and I was in a similar situation as you, and almost everyone on this forum was telling me I was an auto-reject cuz psychology is too competitive, and they reject students who leave prereqs for spring. Despite this, I was able to gain admission. UCLA truly does take a holistic approach and there’s not a set rule that is applied to every student.
I’ll have all the major prereqs completed by the end of this fall, with the exception for the last math sequence course, which i’m taking in the spring prior to my indeterminate transfer. Congratulations!!
